scribblet Posted May 6, 2006 Report Posted May 6, 2006 Finally, its on the way, but will it pass ? http://www.canada.com/globaltv/national/st...33-900da829b6b0 EXCLUSIVE: Tories to disarm gun registry Global National Thursday, May 04, 2006 OTTAWA -- The Tories campiagned on law and order and the Conservative Party was not just talking tough. A Global National exclusive has discovered the Harper government is appealing to its base by moving to disarm the controversial gun registry. Global National has learned the details of how the Conservatives are going to deal with the gun registry: during the election they promised to kill it, but that's proving to be more difficult than they thought. Hicksey Posted May 6, 2006 Report Posted May 6, 2006 The liberals will whine about this, but only because they won't have a tool to squirrel money to their special interests once they get back in office I know its not proven this happened, but how else can you waste 2 billion dollars on a 30 million dollar program? Until Chretien, Martin, Adscam and the Gun Registry I didn't think that level of incompetence was even possible. Its about time this happened. Quote "If in passing, you never encounter anything that offends you, you are not living in a free society." - Rt. Hon. Kim Campbell - βIn many respects, the government needs fewer rules, but rules that are consistently applied.β - Sheila Fraser, Former Auditor General.
shoop Posted May 6, 2006 Report Posted May 6, 2006 This will be another promise the Government will fulfill. The Liberals can't really afford to fight them on this. As much as the Liberals could likely swing left after their next leader has been chosen, they can't afford to alienate the remaining base they have in rural Canada. So the eventual abolition of the Long Gun Registry will pass and the Government will have that much more reason to head into another election. Quote
geoffrey Posted May 7, 2006 Report Posted May 7, 2006 The project was worth no more than 5 or 6 million, tops. My company could do it for around that price (we do records management type things for oil and gas as well as financials, all remotely accessible and far more secure). Too bad it never went to fair public tender, I'd be a rich man right now. Instead, Canadian's have been ripped off $2b for a program that hasn't helped in one investigation. Or shoud I say 'Gun' 'caulking' '2 - 15 mm' '1023857465' 'right hand corner of shed, hanging up beside #2 - 'gun' 'soldering gun' '02 - 05 mm' '2748374659' 'right hand corner of shed beside # 3 - 'gun' glue' ............. geoffrey Posted May 7, 2006 Report Posted May 7, 2006 You didn't actually register those did you? That'd be too much fun. I'm holding off buying a new shotgun for skeet until the registry is cancelled, hopefully soon. No need to give the government more information about myself or my possessions. More people are injured playing hockey each year than by responsible gun owners (even though many Canadians own guns, less then play hockey though, I'll credit that). Do we need to register hockey sticks and pucks too? They are a much greater threat to society. Quote RealRisk.ca - (Latest Post: Prosecutors have no "Skin in the Game") --
