evilpeachblossom Posted September 9, 2003 Report Posted September 9, 2003 Has anyone read about the Harvey Milk High School exclusively for gay students? I was totally offended when I first read about this school. I thought we decided segregation was a bad thing a long time ago...but now people are insisting this a good idea. I would love for all students, not just heterosexual ones, to feel safe and accepted in their learning environment. Apparently nearly 70% of gay teens nationally have experience harassment or violence, according to the Sexual Information and Education Council. That is terrible, but it doesn't mean under any circumstances that gay students should get their own school. It means that the other students aren't being taught to accept others for who or what they are, and that is the real problem. Besides, judging by their dislike for homosexual students, discriminating heterosexual students would actually enjoy being separated from those they despise that much? Somebody needs to teach these people that they are not going to agree with everyone they meet in life, thus they should get used to it now, before they get a gay boss and get fired for being insubordinate or something like that. Does anyone that the school is a good idea? No one I've been talking to seems to think so, yet I'd like to hear some information from someone with the opposite point of view, just to be as informed as possible. Thanks! (By the way, this is my first post, and I didn't know what to say, how did I do?) Quote
djpark121 Posted September 9, 2003 Report Posted September 9, 2003 Separation of schools for homosexual heterosexual students is an absurd idea. First, it would cost the federal and local governments billions of dollars if it became a peice of legislation. 2nd, this would definitely allow the creation of gay civil unions as they now have a right to protest the segregation of homosexuals, which must not happen. Homosexuals and heterosexuals can live with each other, and have always been living with each other, and will continue to live with each other. Separation of schools for different sexual preferences is utterly ridiculous. Quote
nova_satori Posted September 11, 2003 Report Posted September 11, 2003 However, while djpark121 is true, do you want a disgruntled male who is pissed off by being harrassed on a daily basis, to go postal? Another colombine? It comes down to, how much are lives worth. Quote
