Radiorum Posted March 20 Report Posted March 20 Trump terminates program tracking mass abductions of Ukrainian children I wonder if Putin said, "Pretty please?" And then there's Trump, kissing Putin's ass. Observers fear the move has compromised evidence of war crimes by Russian officials and will hinder efforts to rescue thousands of missing Ukrainian children. The Trump administration has terminated a U.S.-funded initiative that documents alleged Russian war crimes, including a sensitive database detailing the mass deportation of Ukrainian children to Russia, according to U.S. officials familiar with the directive and documents obtained by The Washington Post. The move has barred the transmission of evidence to prosecutors pursuing multiple criminal cases, including the International Criminal Court’s landmark indictment of Russian President Vladimir Putin for what it has called the “unlawful transfer” of children from occupied areas of Ukraine, U.S. officials said. About that ICC warrant: ICC’s Putin arrest warrant based on State Dept-funded report that debunked itself | The Grayzone How NATO states sponsored ICC prosecutor’s Putin arrest warrant | The Grayzone From the second article: ** As The Grayzone has reported, the ICC’s warrant was inspired by a State Department-funded report that contained no field reporting, no concrete evidence of war crimes, and no proof that Russia was actually targeting Ukrainian youth with a massive deportation campaign. In fact, the investigators acknowledged finding “no documentation of child mistreatment, including sexual or physical violence, among the camps referenced in this report.” What’s more, the inquiry’s lead author told The Grayzone’s Jeremy Loffredo that “a large amount” of the Russian youth camps his team researched were “primarily cultural education – like, I would say, teddy bear.” Though Khan pledged his absolute independence in his hunt for Putin, he is closely aligned with the same Western governments that are currently engaged in a proxy battle with Russia on the Ukrainian battlefield. Meanwhile, he has stalled the ICC’s case against Israel, frustrating human rights lawyers who represent the victims of grisly violence in the besieged Gaza Strip. Additionally, Khan formally dropped the international court’s case against the US military for its actions in Afghanistan. Through his focus on Ukraine, Khan has presided over a massive surge in Western financial support for his office, with much of the money earmarked for his investigation into Russian officials. The ICC’s issuance of Putin’s arrest warrant happened to coincide with a major donor’s conference for the court in London, England. The ICC prosecutor’s political entanglements do not stop there. Celebrity lawyer Amal Clooney has worked as a special advisor to Khan’s office while simultaneously counseling the Ukrainian government on its initiative to target Russian officials with prosecution, either by the ICC or another international body. Clooney has also served as a special liaison to the British Foreign Secretary. It is perhaps no surprise, then, that after two decades of unremitting hostile relations with the ICC, official Washington is suddenly warming up to the court, and is endeared by its top prosecutor. ** 1 Quote

User Posted March 20 Report Posted March 20 It helps if you read past the headlines: Nothing special here for Putin, just part of the broader cuts: "WASHINGTON, March 19 (Reuters) - The U.S. State Department on Wednesday denied that data collected in a government-funded program that helps track thousands of abducted Ukrainian children had been deleted, but acknowledged that the effort had been terminated as part of Washington's sweeping freeze on almost all foreign aid." https://www.reuters.com/world/state-dept-denies-deleting-data-halted-program-tracking-abducted-ukrainian-2025-03-19/ 1 Quote

Radiorum Posted March 20 Author Report Posted March 20 Trump scores another one for Putin and Russia Trump has shut down the U.S. Agency for Global Media (USAGM), the umbrella organization that provides support not only to Voice of America but also to Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, Radio Martí, and Radio Free Asia, among other groups. As Max Boot wrote in The Washington Post on Sunday, “All of this amounts to a stunning and self-defeating repudiation of America’s legacy as a beacon of freedom around the world.” Russia’s reaction (made on Russian television on Sunday night) regarding Trump’s order: “Today is a celebration for my colleagues at RT, Sputnik, and other outlets, because Trump unexpectedly announced that he’s closing down Radio Liberty and Voice of America, and now they’re closed. This is an awesome decision by Trump.” Apparently, Trump (just like Russia) does not like media that criticizes authoritarian governments. Man, is Russia ever cheering for Trump. 1 Quote

Radiorum Posted March 20 Author Report Posted March 20 Trump is just the gift that keeps giving ... to Putin. The Trump Administration has disbanded Task Force KleptoCapture and ended the Foreign Influence Task Force. Task Force KleptoCapture was a program aimed at seizing the assets of Russian oligarchs as a means to punish Russia for its invasion of Ukraine. Foreign Influence Task Force was established to police influence campaigns staged by Russia and other nations aimed at sowing discord, undermining democracy and spreading disinformation. 1 Quote
