herbie Posted November 2, 2024 Report Posted November 2, 2024 Too typical to not mention. Serviced a system for a 93 yr old lady, her daughter (mid 70s) "set it all up" for her. Convinced her she needed a 15" laptop ti replace the desktop and toss that 24" LCD... and of being that age she needed a laptop cooler to put under it on the desk and one of those goddam Logitech ball laptops I last saw in the days when people argued about Which was best, MS word or WordPerfect. It was a new Win 11 Rtzen 7, and it took me 3 hours to remove all the crap she installed, AVG Free, Macafee Websafe, Disk Defragger, Ccleaner, driver helpers, VPNs. etc. Everything the daughter used since the days of Win98 and 40 Gig spinner drives.\ Brought it back and set it on her desktop where it will never move from and connected to the wifi modem 6" away to discover her download speed was 110Kbps... that;s why her YeeHaw Mail wouldn't download. Goy 1000 x faster hooking to my iPhone hotspot. I wanted to tell her about how she qualified for low income 10Mbps internet for $20 a month indtead of the $85 she was paying, but she was too doddery. Would've told her son but he's as sharp as her girl. He'd popped out and was waiting for her computer to be fixed so he could download a picture from his iPhone onto it, print it out on her printer and then fax it to a friend on his contact list. He did call today and said that the phone company told him his Mom was 'on copper' and that was the best they could deliver on copper. She live at most 100m from the Central Office. He believed them too. This popping of a quick lie to get customers out of your hair has taken over every business in Canada! Quote
