Grits back Torys on Afghanistan; now reject call for "vote"

Ottawa — The Liberals appear to be lining up solidly behind the Conservative government over the mission in Afghanistan, rejecting NDP calls for a parliamentary vote on the matter.

“We are against a vote because it’s a responsibility of the executive and because we should not second-guess when we have an important mission to succeed,” Liberal foreign affairs critic Stéphane Dion said yesterday on CTV’s Question Period.

Just three weeks ago, Liberal defence critic Ujjal Dosanjh spoke out vigorously in favour of a House debate while clearly leaving the door open to a vote on the Afghan mission.

Perhaps the Liberals are feeling pangs of guilt after today's story about our troops having to buy their own equipment because the Liberal Party has inadequately equipped them. Or is it guilt pangs because of the crap subs they bought that killed Canadian seaman Lieut. Chris Saunders (God Bless him), a husband and father of two?

Bastards!

An adequate military is very important; far more important than some stupid wasteful govt-run daycare program or a $2 million, oops, $2 billion gun registry program. I've always felt that govt's #1 role is to protect its citizens from its enemies. And I don't want to hear any of that naive utopian crap that Islamic terrorists won't bother us because we are so well-liked in the world! OBL even named Canada on his 5 country hitlist. We are the type of society that they despise.

Our men and women of the military are some of the most rugged toughest individuals in the world. The very least we can do is adequately equip them. And support them instead of "debating" their mission repeatedly. What is there to debate? If we run from Afghanistan, what kind of message does that send to the Islamonazis? What kind of message does that send to the long-suffering people of Afghanistan? What kind of message does that send to our allies?

That.is.all.

HEY HEY HEY .... if our soldiers don't like their tootsies touching anything but buttersoft Italian Gucci leather, LET them spend their own money.

Or maybe it would be fair to reimburse them for those "real man boots" that they so shun .... to be applied towards those Italian buttersofties.

HEY, I've noticed how overweight most of our soldiers are. Should we maybe provide them with the Jenny Craig diet?

TSK TSK TSK ... what spoiled brats Canadian soldiers are.

BTW - Is it really true that out of the 2200 of our soldiers that are in Afghanistan, only less than 500 are actually trained for combat, the rest (1700) being just support staff, good for nothing but to RAH RAH RAH the real guys on?

What a shame!

Glad to see your support for the troops!

Leftie style!

This is so moronic.

Unlike someone who starts threads calling Canada "1984ish" in regards to Stephen Harper

When did the Liberals call for a vote? They didn't.

I believe that you were, as well as Liberal defence critic Ujjal Dosanjh.

Go back to Muslim bashing. Stick to your specialty!

 Does that mean that I am now on the same plane as Jerry Seinfeld?

Will you start a 6 word opening post about me?

"He hates them. That is all."

I have to admit I spewed Pepsi all over my monitor when I saw your "Jerry Seinfeld and Muslims" thread in the religious section.

Too funny! :D

Actually Ujjal Dosanjh called for a debate, not a vote, there is a difference.

And US troops (and their families)also also had to buy proper equipment to fight over in Iraq (Bullett proof vests, body padding etc.). Did you anything negative to say about that Monty Burns?

I did.

You don't have your troops buying their own equipment. We are a seriously a joke, we didn't even have the right camoflage for how long in Afghanistan?

You've got to be kidding right, your not a liberal left over are you, every new piece of equipment that the liberals have purchased Canadian soldiers have had to die before they purchased something that was adaquate for the job ,not top of the line but adaquate made by the cheapest bidder....But then again soldiers have been taking in the rear from the liberals for years.

HEY, I've noticed how overweight most of our soldiers are. Should we maybe provide them with the Jenny Craig diet?

I think your a little confused soldiers are not airmen or sailors, do the guys in the below link look fat to you....but have you tasted army food maybe your on to something. My Webpage

TSK TSK TSK ... what spoiled brats Canadian soldiers are.

Perhaps you can give us an example of just how our government has spoiled us. Oh yes i forgot the new subs they bought us, or was it the new sea king Helos, or the new fighting ships or transport aircraft yes your right they do spoil us rotten....but were not talking about vehs or aircraft or ships are we, just boots, equipment vests, you know the real big things.

If you mean 500 infantry soldiers then yes, but there is still armoured guys, Arty guys, combat Engineers, but your right there is alot of support guys there everyone is doing there part, and all of them are trained for combat if the need arises.

We, the willing, led by the unknowing, are doing the impossible for the ungrateful. We have now done so much for so long with so little, we are now capable of doing anything with nothing.

So your calling the US military a joke?

we didn't even have the right camoflage for how long in Afghanistan?

Yes this is true, and they should of had the proper colour of uniforms before being deployed. No argument there.

I just am plain fed up with jerks who think that our soldiers buying their own equipment is a funny thing. It is not that they want a soft faberic or stylist boots, it is because they may have to put their life on the line and boots that are not designed for desert and clothing may mean the difference between coming home alive and coming home dead. So they see it as when it is their own life what position would you take.

That to me is a shame on each and every Canadian taxpayer. We ask these maen and women to put their lives on the line, and we increase the odds that they could die by suppling less then the best equipment. So some accountant can balance his budget.

I would welcome the Canadian armed forces to become selfsufficient, but since they are not a for profit agency they can not just manufacture their own equipment. But That would be a good thing to see though. Maybe that is what we need, is a military that manufactures their own clothing and equipment. Boy, would that just be a great thing. Build our own weapons and planes and ships. Then watch all the Boeing's and others scream foul. Hell Macdonald Douglas would, just disappear. But maybe that is what we need to have happen, since it seems to be more of a comedy routine to most.
