OTTAWA — More than 60 members of the country's political and business elites say some of Justice John Gomery's key reform proposals would do more harm than good to the federal government.

In a letter to Prime Minister Stephen Harper, the group argues that the drastic changes proposed by Gomery go far beyond what was needed to deal with the federal sponsorship scandal.

Of course the Ottawa business elite and bureaucracy want less restrictions. I mean, how can government function if you can't sell off your department to your friends?

It will be interesting to see how Mr.Harper will react to all of this.

I can't help but wonder if the the reaction from our business elite would be the same if Mr. Martin was still captain?

I suspect there would be no media outcry and the Gommery commissions recommendations would quite rapidly and quietly disappear.

Certain people appear to be worried!
