Hollus Posted February 6, 2006 Author Report Posted February 6, 2006 I guess you guys we're watching a different game than I.... Looks like it wasn’t only the home crowd that was pro-Steelers at Ford Field. Count the zebras amongst those who seemed to be among the Iron City faithful. All game long, it looked like they had an edict to “make sure Jerome Bettis goes out a winner and make sure Dan Rooney gets a Vince”. http://www.patsfans.com/bob/display_story.php?story_id=2933 This is the space where I get to say, I told ya so. But I won't. I can't. I've never felt so empty being right. I feel dirty. I wish I'd been wrong. The Steelers did not deserve to win this game. They were not the better team. O'Connor was right. Seattle was the better team. msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story If you read between the lines, though, they pretty much spelled out in bold letters that they had plenty of help in handing Pittsburgh its fifth Lombardi Trophy. Namely, the boys in black and white. Here's what referee Bill Leavy's crew did, point blank: It robbed Seattle. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/playoffs05/c...ht&lid=tab1pos2 Total Access on Wednesday should be interesting with the usual interview with Mike Pereira (sp?). Four awful calls cost Seattle 14 points and 45 yards. The Roethlisberger TD, the Jackson pass interference/non-TD, the Locklear holding call where he barely had a hand on the defender, and the truly ridiculous 15-yard low block call on Hasselbeck. http://www.footballoutsiders.com/2006/02/0.../audibles/3631/ But on this night, the Steelers had their own version of your 12th Man. He wore a striped shirt and a whistle. He threw a flag. On this night, the only frauds wore stripes. http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story...=bayless/060205 As the e-mails continue to click in at an unprecedented pace, with 90 percent of the readers complaining about the officiating from Super Bowl XL. With all that said, the Seattle Seahawks have every right to believe that they got screwed by the zebras. We're into our fifth year now, and this game provoked the biggest flood of e-mails we've ever received. http://www.profootballtalk.com/rumormill.htm What crime-ridden, boarded-building, automotive-industry-ravaged, snowy Detroit couldn't do, an NFL officiating crew pulled off with relative ease in front of plenty of bored-silly football fans inside beautiful Ford Field. The inevitable finally happened. A group of middle-aged executives trying to keep pace with a group of highly trained 20-something athletes destroyed America's sports holiday. Pittsburgh's one-for-the-thumb Super Bowl will be remembered as the game when physically overmatched referees and heads-buried NFL executives flipped non-Steelers fans an XL middle finger. Also, the officiating crew should be forced to address the media and defend their decisions. It's ridiculous that the media are allowed to confront players, coaches, executives and owners, but the guys who can easily change the course of a game with one questionable decision are pretty much off limits. Bill Leavy and his crew ruined Super Bowl XL. Am I the only one who would like to hear them defend their incompetence? http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/sport...ll/13801313.htm ...the list is growing. EDIT:fixed links. Quote
shoop Posted February 6, 2006 Report Posted February 6, 2006 It was a poorly called game, don't get me wrong. However, quote random seahawks fans, or angry commentators, all you want. The refs didn't *win* the game for the Steelers. The refs didn't force Seattle to give up a 37-yard pass when the Steelers were at third and 28. You really couldn't tell if that Roethlisberger TD was good or not. Too bad they didn't have a better camera angles. The refs didn't make the Seattle kicker to miss two field goal tries. The refs didn't make the Seahawks to bite on the gadget play with Randle El throwing that great TD pass. The refs didn't make Hasselbeck force that bad pass for the interception in the 4th that essentially ended the game. I guess you guys we're watching a different game than I.... Quote
Hollus Posted February 6, 2006 Author Report Posted February 6, 2006 Seahawks by far played the better game. Steelers(perfect name) had'nt even got a 1rst down 19mins into the game. Every single questionable, marginal or outright bad call went against the Seahawks. Those articles are not the product of seahawk bias, its just simple deduction. Quote
wellandboy Posted February 6, 2006 Report Posted February 6, 2006 Poorest reffing I've ever seen in any NFL game let alone a Super Bowl. I think the bad calls did have an influence in the game's outcome. Not being a Steelers fan or Seahawk fan, I have no axe to grind, but as a football fan, it's hugely disappointing to see the officials get all the attention. Quote
crazymf Posted February 6, 2006 Report Posted February 6, 2006 I thought the defense was great. Where was the good offense? They needed Wilkie reincarnated to hammer a few passes downfield and Cutler back to blast 55 yard field goals all day long. I was disappointed with the offense on both teams. That sucked almost as much as the Stones. Those guys should die and go away. Quote The trouble with the legal profession is that 98% of its members give the rest a bad name.
