This is exactly what we need cut and dried papers taking diametrically opposed views. One conservative and one liberal. Then you will know where each stands and which paper to buy.

Good for the Winnipeg paper for being so one sided makes it easy for us poor cotton pickin' common folk to pick a side for us. Thanks ya'll.

I think the allpoliticsnow.com site is talking about two Winnipeg papers being one-sided.

Where is the one taking an opposing view??

The Toronto Star?

It's got the biggest readership in Canada, you can't disagree that it holds the most power (or can you?).

Well, if the Toronto Star was published in Winnipeg I guess that would be relavent. Duh.

Winnipeg might be only 1/30th of Canadas population, but The Sun is pretty widespread and it's editorial attitude is repeated in all it's affiliates. You can't disagree with that.

Some papers are left, some are right. If you know the bias then it really doesn't matter. The media in this country is balanced just fine.

Spoken like a true Conservative. Not surprising, since the media bias is largely to the right.

Sure gerry. Keep on thinking that.

All we have is the Sun and the National Post.

Whats the big deal? Editorial staff obviously have bias, this is expected and happens in all papers...

I honestly don't see the deal.

Then I don't see the big deal with the CBC having a bias.

Truth is, the media must be made aware of, and accountable for, the influence they carry over the public.

They influence the public immensely.

This comes down to a public good vs freedom of expression debate.

My instinct is the same as yours, that the press should be able to write what they please, but having seen the influence they carry, and the fact that the media is by nature going to carry a right leaning bias because media are corporate identities, I really don't know what is best.

What do you think?

The CBC is paid for by all Canadians. I can chose not to buy a newspaper. I cannot chose to not support the CBC.

Gerry, must you be so mellow dramatic?

Incredible media bias exposed in Winnipeg?

I don't know about the Winnipeg Sun, although Sun papers are generally noted for being moderate, but 2 Manitoba websites I visit often complain about the Winnipeg Free Press' leftwing bias. Frances Russell appears to be especially despised.

It's hard to take you seriously when you admit you think anyone who suggests the CBC is biased to the left is being "tinfoilish".

Few leftwingers on this forum defend the CBC as being objective; instead most defend its continued funding--arguing its 'Canadian values' or 'Canadian institution', etc.

Every newspaper on the newsstand, that I saw, had colour pictures of Harper in Kandahar on page one, above the fold, and the trip as their main story.

Except the Toronto Star.

First day, it was a picture of Milosovic, and the main story was his death.

Second day, it was some kind of contest. Neither day saw the Afghanistan visit headlined, and no picture of Harper.

No bias there.

That's because as long as I have known that paper has been an apologist rag for the Liberal Party.

If there's one thing about the Sun that the Star can't claim is that the Sun will print articles that criticize the CPC. I haven't seen one criticizing the Liberal Party in the Star in years. Even with AdScam they were careful to say government corruption and never tied the Liberal Party to the corruption.
