fellowtraveller Posted January 8, 2006 Report Posted January 8, 2006 I think we will see a tsunami of CanWest, Grope and Flail, CBC headlines shrieking "CONSERVATIVES TAKE THE LEAD" "CONSERVATIVES SURE TO WIN!!!" and such. One of the ones today in Can West was " Anne McLellan shoots down Harpers crime platform" She did nothing of the sort of course. The backlash alone will give the Liberals a 4 point bump. As usual. Quote The government should do something.

You are too paranoid. All journalists seem to be looking forward to a change and are showing Harper in a more positive light. I have noticed a subtle change in tone coming from all media sources in the last 3 weeks. Quote To fly a plane, you need both a left wing and a right wing.
scribblet Posted January 8, 2006 Report Posted January 8, 2006 Hmmm, I think its possible that will happen. Plus, the liberals have an political ad out complete with the firing gun - as in you know - Conservatives will kill your babies. The usual over the top rhetoric, but its a good hook for the uninformed. Quote Hey Ho - Ontario Liberals Have to Go - Fight Wynne - save our province

You are too paranoid. All journalists seem to be looking forward to a change and are showing Harper in a more positive light. I have noticed a subtle change in tone coming from all media sources in the last 3 weeks. They are thinking realistically about change. When I was a teenager I voted NDP. But now in my 20s I have moved to the right. Now, I am centre-right with an emphasis on the common good. I will vote Conservative. I thought long and hard about the election and I realize the CPC is the only party telling it like it is and willing to stand up to corruption and cronyism. My other options: Bloc=A party of discrimination. Liberal=A party of corruption and lies. NDP=A party that will put us back in debt, scare investors, and raise taxes. shoop Posted January 8, 2006 Report Posted January 8, 2006 I think you are right. The headlines in the Toronto Star and Sun were bad news at first glance. Harper muses on possibility of majority win Toronto Star todayHarper hints at majority Toronto Sun todayHowever, the stories are more balanced. The Globe, CBC and CTV sites haven't given the story much prominence. Probably the two Toronto papers trying to outdo each other and both look bad as a result. The debates will be critical. My vibe is Layton isn't going to go for the Harper jugular, seems like he understands how that would just send voters to the Liberals. You are too paranoid. All journalists seem to be looking forward to a change and are showing Harper in a more positive light. I have noticed a subtle change in tone coming from all media sources in the last 3 weeks. Quote
fellowtraveller Posted January 8, 2006 Author Report Posted January 8, 2006 The debates will be critical. Not many will watch the debates, but as you point out the Toronto Headlines are shrieking, already in near panic mode. It doesn't matter that the stories don't match the headlines. Quote The government should do something.
scribblet Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 I think you are right. The headlines in the Toronto Star and Sun were bad news at first glance. Harper muses on possibility of majority win Toronto Star todayHarper hints at majority Toronto Sun today If you read the Star article, Harper is doing nothing but saying anything can happen, lots will likely change in the next two weeks and he knows that. So how misleading to have a headline that says Harper is "musing" about a majority. This deserves a correction. Quote Hey Ho - Ontario Liberals Have to Go - Fight Wynne - save our province
fellowtraveller Posted January 9, 2006 Author Report Posted January 9, 2006 Todays Can West Misdirection : the headline and story are about how bad minority governments are, fair enough. The very large photo imbedded in the text (which is essentially unrelated to the story, and is not linked in the caption to the story), shows the heads of Harper and Duceppe, with Harpers face distorted as he whispers into Duceppes ear., with an eager expression on Ducppes face. The implication is that they are the best of buddies, cooking something up. Unfortunately, I cannot link. Quote The government should do something.
Shakeyhands Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 Ahh yes... the vast Liberal Media conspiracy... you guys are too funny! Quote "They muddy the water, to make it seem deep." - Friedrich Nietzsche

During the 2004 campaign the Liberals claimed that the Conservative estimates were out of whack as well ..... And in the fall of 2005 the Liberals were planning spending based on almost the same numbers as estimated by the Conservative party in 2004. Paul Martin is trapping himself with his own rhetoric. Quote Hey Ho - Ontario Liberals Have to Go - Fight Wynne - save our province
shoop Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 Shakey, Never called it a conspiracy, nor would I associate the Tor Sun with the left, but take a look at my argument. Those headlines were grossly inaccurate compared to what Harper actually said. Ahh yes... the vast Liberal Media conspiracy... you guys are too funny! Quote
fellowtraveller Posted January 9, 2006 Author Report Posted January 9, 2006 Ahh yes... the vast Liberal Media conspiracy... you guys are too funny Look it up yourself, if you can be bothered. Then explain the relevance of the photo, the very large photo, to the story. Page 5 in most CanWest newspapers, across Canada. Today. Quote The government should do something.
