kimmy Posted December 4, 2005 Report Posted December 4, 2005 Hopefully a used, highmilage GM product. The other night, August titled his post on Buzz Hargrove's announcement "Buzz Hargrove Appointed to Senate," and my initial reaction was to assume August was serious... I guess that's a statement about how much faith I have in politics in this country. -k Quote (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ Friendly forum facilitator! ┬──┬◡ノ(° -°ノ)
Montgomery Burns Posted December 5, 2005 Report Posted December 5, 2005 Kimmy: The other night, August titled his post on Buzz Hargrove's announcement "Buzz Hargrove Appointed to Senate," Me thinks that August1991 is probably correct. However, it was strange to hear Hargrove say that this Liberal/NDP coalition is the best for Canada--right after he gave the NDP the boot and threw his support behind the Liberals. Apparently, some of the union members are not too happy with Hargrove for suggesting that union members vote for the Libs. I do not like Hargrove. I have not forgotten his suggestion that GM is hurting because they weren't selling their vehicles at top price--they were discounting some of their product. Hargrove failed to mention that the union's vast benefits are hurting the company--$1500 per vehicle in healthcare costs alone. GM's unionized hourly employees pay no deductibles, and pay only 7% for their healthcare costs versus 27-32% paid by the average US salaried worker. The union's demands hurt their own job security. Note: GM is also to blame for allowing this to happen and for not putting out a more appealing line of vehicles that is attractive to the public. Canuck E Stan Posted December 5, 2005 Report Posted December 5, 2005 What the Buzzard wanted he didn't get. Joe Comartin, a longtime lawyer for the Canadian Auto Workers (CAW) union and Windsor, Ontario, MP, is serving as a front man for the maneuvers of CAW President Buzz Hargrove. Hargrove considered contesting the NDP leadership himself, but conceded that there was little support for his candidacy either among the social-democratic or union officialdom.Hargrove has frequently criticized the NDP for moving so far to the right as to render it indistinguishable from the Liberals. He believes an NDP with more traditional social-democratic policies would be a more effective instrument for the trade union bureaucracy to engage in political horse-trading with the government of the day and, more importantly, better serve to prevent the growth of a genuine movement for independent working class political struggle. Hargrove’s critics within the NDP and Canadian Labour Congress bitterly resent his verbal tirades against their right-wing policies. They note that when it comes to CAW affairs Hargrove is a strong advocate of corporatist collaboration with the auto bosses and in the last Ontario election was the keenest advocate of “strategic voting” for the right-wing Liberals. 24 January 2003 World Socialist Web Site Quote "Any man under 30 who is not a liberal has no heart, and any man over 30 who is not a conservative has no brains." — Winston Churchill

But for the record I have no doubt he probably will be if the Liberals get in again. Or maybe Federal Ethics Commissioner?
