scribblet Posted December 3, 2005 Report Posted December 3, 2005 Everyone iseems to be concentrating on the proposal to cut the GST and Martin's promised tax cuts. I'm sure the CPC will introduce additional cuts in addition to the GST reduction, if so it could change the face of the debate. So what tax cuts do you think we should be getting? Personally I'd like to see something to offset the Health Care tax increase in Ontario, personally that was a double whammy for us, we are both on fixed incomes. At least 7 million low income people pay no income tax now, a GST cut will help them as much as anyone. They too buy gasoline, pay for heat, hydro and various products. I don't know what else will be announced, but I'm guessing there could be an increase in tax exemptions and daycare credits announced later. This would spur employment and move it in the direction we want, to help fight all these part-time Mcjobs. theloniusfleabag Posted December 3, 2005 Report Posted December 3, 2005 Dear Argus, I would like to see a cut in payroll taxes -Income tax-yes, should be cut or abolished. GST-increased to 10%but only for full-time permanent positions. Why? Many corporations are moving to 'part time positioning' because it costs them less in benefits, etc. and actually employs more people. A buddy of mine drives for a large courier company, and though his shift spans 10-14 hrs, they give him a 3 hr lunch break and call the position 'part time'.This would spur employment and move it in the direction we want, to help fight all these part-time Mcjobs.Mcjobs are an intergal part of the economy. Only unionizing diehards think that one should get full time wages and benefits for pubescent teens with humongous pimples and a snotty nose hovering over and/or fondling your McSandwich. err Posted December 5, 2005 Report Posted December 5, 2005 An income tax cut would be more regressive than the GST cut. In cutting income taxes, the wealthy are the primary beneficiaries of the cut... and get most the money taken from the government's coffers. A removal of the GST or some percentage thereof will benefit the lower income and middle classes much more than will an income tax cut. Better yet, why not put the surplus back where much of it was taken from. Fix our PUBLIC health-care system so that it provides the services we expect it to. We don't elect governments to give us our own money back.... We elect them to provide services for our money....... Quote

And why was scrapping the GST so good when the Liberals proposed it and won a majorityon it, but now it isn't?? Quote

The Liberals realized this. As a potential Conservative voter, I want to trust Harper's proposal. At least it would be consistent with a smaller government platform. I don't know if it will work...economically the Liberal plan makes more sense but after all these promises that were broken who knows if they even mean what they say anymore. shoop Posted December 6, 2005 Report Posted December 6, 2005 The Liberals plan will cost more and is a lot more complicated. No guarantees it gets implicated.
