theloniusfleabag Posted November 3, 2005 Report Posted November 3, 2005 It seems that the US holds that nothing has value except it's own consumption wants. They would cut down the last tree, and poison the last lake for even a temporary gain before being forced (by necessity, not morality) to look at alternatives. from... http://start.shaw.ca/start/enCA/News/World...rc=w110377A.xml "Americans need this American oil," said Senator Ted Stevens of Alaska, speaking for many Republicans rattled by U.S. dependence on foreign oil, hurricane damage to Gulf Coast pipelines and high prices at the pump. "We now rely on unstable and unfriendly regimes to meet our energy needs." But Cantwell accused drilling supporters of an "irresponsible manipulation of the budget process" to finally open up the sprawling reserve after failing for decades. "Using backdoor tactics to destroy America's last great wild frontier will not solve our nation's energy problems and will do nothing to lower skyrocketing gas prices," she said in a statement. theloniusfleabag Posted November 4, 2005 Author Report Posted November 4, 2005 Still, NDP leader Jack Layton said Canada has no credibility complaining about U.S. drilling. "The government of Canada...should lead by example by saying there will be no drilling off the west coast of B.C. and then we should go after George Bush and his administration." I will admit that Canada is somewhat hypocritical on issues of the environment. Actions such as former Alberta Environment Minister Ralph Klein giving pulp mills such as Diashowa 10 years exemption status from environmental waste regulations are deplorable. Montgomery Burns Posted November 6, 2005 Report Posted November 6, 2005 Maria Cantwell is a Democrat senator from Washington State. Everyone knows that Washington is an ultra-liberal state. But what about the caribou?! *wrings hands emotionally* And why the hell is the Liberal govt sticking their noses in US sovereignty? Is there no end to the insufferable arrogance of this Party? Montgomery Burns Posted November 14, 2005 Report Posted November 14, 2005 I read that they are drilling on 200 acres of the 19.6 million acre reserve. It's a minute amount of land. The US should drill at ANWR and reduce their dependence on Mid East oil. It would also create jobs. However, some idiot RINO Republicans are now trying to stop it. When will they starting acting like a majority party?
