So much of our public discussion is controlled by government, and with so few private actors of any reach or power, that it almost has to be government. The Harper government made tentative little efforts in that direction at one point, trying to emphasize our military history, for example, and play up great moments in Canada's history. But it wasn't a really consistent or persistent effort. Adn then the Liberals got in and the message changed to "All Canada's history is one of evil, cruelty, homophobia, racism and murder and all its former leaders were horrible people. BE ASHAMED!
