Montgomery Burns Posted October 25, 2005 Report Posted October 25, 2005 On Sept 30, the BBC released the results of an online poll they had created. The results of their "Who should lead a Fantasy World Govt" poll from their leftwing readers: 1 - Nelson Mandela 2 - Bill Clinton 3 - Dalai Lama 4 - Noam Chomsky 5 - Alan Greenspan 6 - Bill Gates 7 - Steve Jobs 8 - Archbishop Desmond Tutu 9 - Richard Branson 10 - George Soros 11 - Kofi Annan The ghastly Bill Clinton at #2, certified America-hater Noam Chomsky at #4, George Soros at #10, and perhaps most frightening--the thoroughly corrupt anti-American Kofi Annan at #11. Other placements in the BBC poll: 15 - Michael Moore 33 - Hugo Chavez 36 - Fidel Castro 43 - George W Bush 70 - Osama bin Laden Rightwingnews.com replied with a poll of their own from 38 right-of-centre weblogs. There was one caveat. Since many conservative bloggers vehemently object to the idea of one world govt, all bloggers were told they were choosing a team to run every country in the world except their own home country. Here are the results of RWN's poll: 15) Paul Wolfowitz: Former US Deputy Secretary of Defense. World Bank President 15) Arnold Schwarzenegger: Governor of California 15) Rush Limbaugh: Talk radio host 15) Junichiro Koizumi: Prime Minister of Japan 15) Christopher Hitchens: Pundit 15) Bill Gates: Founder of Microsoft 15) Tommy Franks: Former US General 15) Dick Cheney: US Vice President 15) George W. Bush: US President 15) Tony Blair: British Prime Minister 12) Donald Rumsfeld: US Secretary of Defense 12) Václav Havel: Former President of Czechoslovakia 12) Pope Benedict XVI: Pope 10) Mark Steyn: Pundit 10) Victor Davis Hanson: Pundit 7) Thomas Sowell: Pundit 7) Antonin Scalia: US Supreme Court Justice 7) Ann Coulter: Pundit 4) Natan Sharansky: Soviet dissident, former Israeli cabinet member 4) Rudy Giuliani: Former Mayor of New York City 4) Milton Friedman: Economist 2) Margaret Thatcher: Former British Prime Minister 2) John Howard: Australian Prime Minister 1) Condoleeza Rice: US Secretary of State Condi would be great, but I don't even think she will win the Republican nomination. The liberal MSM will savage her for being an unmarried 50 yr old woman. Plus, she has no experience in running for anything. Interesting to see Australia's John Howard and The Iron Lady--Margaret Thatcher--tied for 2nd. Ann Coulter in a 3-way tie for 7th? That oughta drive the lefties wild with rage. I admit that she is over-the-top sometimes (although I think it is an act), but most of the time she is dead on. And Canada's Mark Steyn is tied for 10th with the legendary Victor Davis Hanson. Congrats Mr Steyn! We miss ya; the National Post has never been the same since you left! I have a quote from Thomas Sowell in my signature. He is in a 3-way tie for #7 in the rightwing poll. He is a black conservative (an Uncle Tom to the far left) and IMHO, is up there as a pundit with Mark Steyn and VDH. Anyways, I thought this was interesting. Who would you pick to lead a fantasy world govt? Riverwind Posted October 25, 2005 Report Posted October 25, 2005 Anyways, I thought this was interesting. Who would you pick to lead a fantasy world govt?I find all of the choices on both lists quite distasteful (although Koizumi would be an interesting choice). At the end of the day, it does not make a difference who the world 'leader' is because the ability of a leader to lead depends entirely on the underlying political system. Given the fact that most countries in the world today have disfunctional political systems, I don't see how we could invent a world wide system that would be anything other than useless. Quote To fly a plane, you need both a left wing and a right wing.
theloniusfleabag Posted October 25, 2005 Report Posted October 25, 2005 Dear Montgomery Burns, Interesting. I am not up on Richard Branson, But isn't he the billionaire owner of Virgin Inc.? Seen as a 'leftie'? Odd. Also, I was very surprised not to see 'Stormin' Norman Schwartzkopf int the 'rightie' section. I would pick him over a lot on that list. Also surprised to see Giuliani so low. As a leftie, though, from the list, I would go with the Dalai Lama, and will have to think about an ultimate one. (besides 'Me', that is) Quote Would the Special Olympics Committee disqualify kids born with flippers from the swimming events?
Guest eureka Posted October 25, 2005 Report Posted October 25, 2005 I would think experience in a fantasy world should be the deciding factoe. It would be a minefield for the rational. I would suggest that either Lewis Carroll or Montgomery Burns would be an excellent choice. Quote

theloniusfleabag Posted October 25, 2005 Report Posted October 25, 2005 Dear Montgomery Burns, Now that I think about it, I would choose Clive Beddoe, the head of WestJet. He seems to have sound fiscal policy, treats his workers well (so well most of them are happy to work there, and haven't 'gone union') and from what I have heard from people who work there, an honest guy. There is some question of 'corporate espionage' between WestJet and Air Canada, but nothing has been resolved as far as I know. Milton (head of AC) is an idiot who would blame Santa Claus for his own bad management. However, reading the 'rightwingnews' link, I found it odd that some of the 'bloggers' that voted were called: Aaron's CC, The Anchoress, La Shawn Barber, The Baseball Crank, Betsy's Page, Boi From Troy, BrothersJudd Blog, Cobb, Dodgeblogium, Dummocrats, Eckernet, Cam Edwards, Inside Larry's Head, Isaac Schrödinger, Knowledge Is Power, The LLama Butchers, Multiple Mentality, My Vast Right Wing Conspiracy, The Nose On Your Face, Patio Pundit, Damian Penny, The Pink Flamingo Bar & Grill, PoliPundit, PrestoPundit, Professor Bainbridge, Reasoned Audacity, Relapsed Catholic, Right Wing News, Sane Nation, Sister Toldjah, Small Dead Animals, Solomonia, Southern Appeal, Stolen Thunder, Stop The ACLU, This Blog Is Full Of Crap, Toys in the Attic, WILLisms 'Relapsed Catholic' and 'small, dead animals'??? I don't think people like this should decide what beer to serve at a party, let alone rulers of a nation. PocketRocket Posted October 29, 2005 Report Posted October 29, 2005 Anyways, I thought this was interesting. Who would you pick to lead a fantasy world govt? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well, seeing as it's a "fantasy" world government, we should be allowed to choose from fantasy characters. I choose Homer Simpson. Montgomery Burns Posted November 1, 2005 Author Report Posted November 1, 2005 Looking at the Top 11 from the BBC, it is easy to see that they has a radical audience. Just compare their Top 11 to Rightwingnews'. No contest. DarkAngel_ Posted November 27, 2005 Report Posted November 27, 2005 I think we need a 'star trek' type gov. not exactly but at least real close in economic distribution, so I think.......Alan Greenspan or no one, a good government needs to be founded as a confederation of democracies in my opinion. Quote men of freedom walk with guns in broad daylight, and as the weak are killed freedom becomes nothing but a dream...
Dominik Posted December 15, 2005 Report Posted December 15, 2005 Hey, none should rule the world. We should have another choice (lol its a fantasy gov.) that includes Collectivism Quote "In unto this world we are born equal, and taken to be judged. Remember this as the revolutions start to happen all around you. Do not be troubled, for this is the foundings of a new era in human evolution. The evolution of Collectivism, the one holy government that is to amend us in our future. Shalt it mend our wounds, mend our judgement, make us equal, and destroy our evil that we created. So unto that, my friends, you must join the revolutions in order for the golden age of the human race to happen, Collectivism" -Jacob Dominik Gregory Martin, 1939
PocketRocket Posted December 27, 2005 Report Posted December 27, 2005 mr burns sir surly some one might suggest god <{POST_SNAPBACK}> No, that wouldn't work, He'd have to be a naturalized citizen Quote I need another coffee
