Right now the system requires a 30 second delay between when you post an article, and when you begin to reply to a second article. This means that if, like me, you read all articles in a thread before replying to the first one, you are constantly seeing that orange warning thing about flood control, and having to wait before beginning to reply to a second or third post.

If the flood control was amended to time from when you hit "reply" on one article (which begins the process of writing your response), and when you hit "reply" on another, or even from when you hit "add reply" on one article (actually posting it) and when you hit "add reply" on the second, which I'm sure you'll agree makes more sense, it would far less of an annoyance.

And yes, I do realize it is merely an annoyance. But still... If you read and type quickly you can see the damned thing six or seven times during a session.

Dear Argus,

But still... If you read and type quickly you can see the damned thing six or seven times during a session.
I too, have seen it often, However, it is a vital function to hinder 'flame/troll posting'. I have seen the effects of not having such a function. I agree your amendment makes sense, as you would be able to write for that 30 seconds, but to me it is a small burden to bear to have a high quality forum.

Would the Special Olympics Committee disqualify kids born with flippers from the swimming events?

I too have seen that screen, and I agree with Thelonious. It's a minor annoyance with a much greater benefit. Also, when I see the screen, I'm reminded to slow down and, as they say, smell the roses.

It's a minor but often repeated annoyance which is entirely unneccessary given the logical alternative of timing the delay from "send" to "send" rather than as is presently the case, from when you finish sending a post to when you want to begin your reply to a new one.

Occasionally, when the flood control beast bites me, I simply start writing my reply first (I always write out my replies in "Wordpad"). then go back and grab any quotes I want to use, then copy/paste.

Works for me, and lets me see less of the flood warning.

I need another coffee
