apollo19 Posted September 12, 2005 Report Posted September 12, 2005 A bit old, but from http://www.economist.com/world/na/displayS...tory_id=4198655 Mr Bush sold himself to the American people as a new kind of conservative. From the Goldwater revolution onwards, American conservatives defined themselves by their hostility to government. They were particularly keen on closing down the Department of Education. Mr Bush increased the Department of Education's funding by a staggering 40%, more in percentage terms than the increase given to the Pentagon. I think we can all agree, whether conservative/liberal/ndp, that young people's education is a good thing to improve upon, and Bush has done a great job of doing that. Also of interest is this story, which compares the European education to US/Asia, and how improving Americans education now will help in the future to improve competitiveness. Quote

So that money should have been split up between the 50 states. The federal department of education does nothing. Quote
