shoop Posted September 8, 2005 Report Posted September 8, 2005 Let me see if I get this right. For fiscal 2004-2005 the Federal surplus is going to be smaller than forecasted. Somehow, the story in the Toronto Star spins it as good news for the Martin government. wtf? Can these guys do anything wrong? "OTTAWA — Finance Minister Ralph Goodale is poised to announce an unusual small federal surplus — bad news in normal times, but curiously good news for the beleaguered minority Liberal government. Sources say Ottawa's surplus for the past fiscal year will total only about $2.6 billion — a bit below the $3 billion that was expected for 2004-05. Normally, having such a small cushion against deficit wouldn't be cause for celebration. But after years of being politically reviled for consistently underestimating — by large amounts — the size of the federal surplus, Goodale will this year be close to the mark." News 'stories' such as this really do give credence to claims of Liberal bias in the media. Quote
mirror Posted September 8, 2005 Report Posted September 8, 2005 If you think the media is biased here in Canada try the US. You ain't seen nothing yet. Of course the media is biased, so what? Since when is it their job to be impartial, or to be fair. The press are businesses, not democratic institutions. They all have their political connections. If you think the media is biased now, just wait until the CBC lockout is over. The CBC might as well be an official arm of the Liberal party. Anyway this smaller surplus takes the heat off the Liberals for tax cuts. Probably the reason the surplus is smaller now is because the NDP wrangled $4.6 billion from the Liberals to keep them in power. As a matter of fact David Miller the Mayor of Toronto was running around town today with an oversized cheque. He was very happy! Check with the mayors in your province as they probably got some money as well. all sorts of games can be played with the finances. To keep his surplus low goodale probably shoved through some expenditures at the last minute. Perogatives of power I suppose. you seem surprised. Are you relatively new to following federal politics? Yet again dickhead mirror, lowers the level of discussion on the board. Bravo sir, you are a champion. Question 27 Will you ever move out of your parent's basement? Canuck E Stan Posted September 10, 2005 Report Posted September 10, 2005 Shoop, you must take it easy - you're taking things too seriously! Some people on MLW are obsessed with the forum and spend all, and I mean all, of their time on this forum (I can send you stats!). Some are not employed, or else are in jail and have little time even for sleep, because they have nothing they are on almost 24/7 and have little else in their lives. Or, they feel it is their calling to inform everyone about what they know (or don't know). While the rest of us have a life, for some this forum has become their life. So Shoop feel sorry for them - addiction is a terrible thing. Point taken though. Quote
