Riverwind Posted August 18, 2005 Report Posted August 18, 2005 I think Wente has captured accurately what went on: Here are her thoughts on the GG: As for her past, I'm inclined to give her a pass. In the context of the times and place, and of her age and stage, she's no more tainted than someone who once hung around with the Waffle wing of the NDP and toasted the overthrow of capitalism. As for her high-browed husband, surely if we could stomach John Ralston Saul, we can stomach him. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/Art...ment/TopStories Quote To fly a plane, you need both a left wing and a right wing.
BHS Posted August 18, 2005 Report Posted August 18, 2005 High-browed? The anti-social "artiste" who wears t-shirts to formal events? That's a joke, right? Quote "And, representing the Slightly Silly Party, Mr. Kevin Phillips Bong." * * * "Er..no. Harper was elected because the people were sick of the other guys and wanted a change. Don't confuse electoral success (which came be attributed to a wide variety of factors) with broad support. That's the surest way to wind up on the sidelines." - Black Dog

shoop Posted August 18, 2005 Author Report Posted August 18, 2005 Lawrence Martin came up with the best reply to Jean's statement. "It doesn't address the rumour she supported the Yes side in the 1995 referendum. It doesn't address Mr. Lafond's alleged sympathies for the sovereigntist side. There are no denials of any of the above. Why not? If they are untrue, why not say so?" Succinct and perfectly stated. Tick tock Mr. Dithers, time is running out on you... Quote
Bakunin Posted August 18, 2005 Report Posted August 18, 2005 Unanymously, the sovreignists leader either Duceppe or members of the PQ, all said they tought jean was a good choice and they didn't like what was happening to her right now. The whole story is comming from a small newspapers of die hard sovreignists. They clearly said what they wanted, to publish this to make the english media mad. I think its worth making that correction cause don't forget about it but in quebec, when you refer as sovreignist or separatist, you reffer as half of the population... When you refer as die hard sovreignist you reffer as maximum 5-10% of the population. So it may looks like or some people may want it to look like its a separatist vs liberal war from the outside, but in reality at least in quebec its often more like a Die hard sovreignist vs Die hard federalist vs soft sovreignist and soft federalist. So as i see it, the die hard soverignist use it as a political tool to try to hurt the federalist and the die hard federalist use it as a tool to discredit the sovreignist while the soft federalist and soft sovreignist are concerned about what is true and what isn't. shoop Posted August 18, 2005 Author Report Posted August 18, 2005 Even the normally docile sheep, i.e. Liberal MPs, are starting to question PM Dithers on the Jean affair. Grit blames 'trouble' on PMO staff. The MP in question, Roger Gallaway (Sarnia-Lambton) is what should be a Liberal stronghold. If he is talking heat over the issue, how many Liberal MPs in the 905 are shaking in their boots right now? Quote
shoop Posted August 18, 2005 Author Report Posted August 18, 2005 Good post, Bakunin! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Eureka, I honestly didn't understand Bakunin's post. Could you paraphrase what you thought was 'good' from it please? Seriously, I understand the points you make -even if I don't always agree with them. thanks Quote
