bigdude Posted June 7, 2005 Author Report Posted June 7, 2005 Liberals introduce 'NDP Budget' measure to protect workers Bill C-55 would guarantee payment of wages up to $3,000 when companies go bankrupt Ottawa - The minority Liberal government has introduced a major component of the so-called NDP federal budget in Parliament. Bill C-55, tabled June 3 by Industry Minister David Emerson, will (if passed) protect the wages of workers up to a level of $3,000 when companies go bankrupt. Currently, they have to wait in line behind secured creditors, sometimes for years, to collect unpaid wages. On average they receive only 13 cents on the dollar for what they are owed. Another feather in Jack Layton's hat. Quote
