The margin of error is 4.5

percentage points 19 times out of 20. Most of the striking findings from this

COMPAS/Ottawa Citzen poll are outside the margin of error and can thus be

treated as statistically valid.

I think 500 is a little too small of a sample size to be an accurate depiction of voters perceptions. Maybe if it was 1000 I would put a little more faith in it. IMHO 500 people is just cutting corners.
