anticlimates
Cellucci says Canada reneged on missile planCTV.ca News Staff Outgoing U.S. Ambassador to Canada Paul Cellucci said American officials were given the direct impression that Canada was going to participate in the U.S.-led ballistic missile-defence plan. [snip] He said Americans were "perplexed" at the decision not to participate because "we've been pretty much assured for a long time that Canada wanted to participate, that this was in Canada's sovereign interest to participate." [snip] "In the United States we'll decide what to do about the missile." Celluci said. Speaking to reporters from the Liberal policy convention on Sunday, Prime Minister Paul Martin denied that Canada was ever onboard. He suggested that Canadian officials finally chose to opt out of the plan last month because they never got answers about what participation would entail. "The missile shield is a project in evolution," Martin said in French. "It will continue evolving. And we don't know what the demands will be, for a project that is evolving because it will change." [snip] Appearing on CTV's Question Period, former Newfoundland premier Brian Tobin said: "Obviously as an ambassador who saw as his number-one mission to get Canada to sign on to the missile-defence strategy of the United States, that ambassador in his mind as he leaves, feels he failed in his number-one mission." "When the prime minister spoke, obviously it wasn't the answer that the ambassador wanted to hear. I think that's closer to the truth than anything else." read rest here He's threatens us with: "In the United States we'll decide what to do about the missile."?? As if the US would not make that decision anyway! He's completely missing the point and failing to respond to the reasons given by Canadians for not joining. He's also incorrect to say that they had been "assured for a long time that Canada wanted to participate" or that they were given the "direct impression that Canada was going to participate" I think Brian Tobin hits it at the end there. This is turning into pathetic sour grapes from an "ambassador" who didn't get what he wanted from our government. I hope the next US ambassador doesn't take the same dictatorial attitude this one did. Lloyd Axworthy said said it best about this guy here.... He called him the "resident governor of the 'northern territories'" who engaged in "attempts to browbeat and command our allegiance to U.S. policies." He also said Cellucci was "far too closeted with exclusive groups of 'experts' from Calgary think-tanks and neo-con lobbyists at cross-border conferences to remotely grasp a cross-section of Canadian attitudes" Take that, Cellucci. You were an awful ambassador and your parting shots are more of the same.

Trial-and-Error
Little Lost Canadians originally posted by Anticlimax Iknowbest - You do? - Seems to me you could do with a handle change as the current one doesn't appear to fit your comments. Anti has posted some excellent references which you have ignored. Your retort is simply that he is anti-American. Perhaps you could elaborate on what you mean by anti-American. All Americans? Some Americans? The Americans in prison? The Americans who hold office? The Americans who live in the Blue States? The Red? Like what Americans are you talking about that you say he is against. Clue: If you say all, then we can assume that you're applying for fool status.
