The Nameless Posted December 1, 2004 Report Posted December 1, 2004 Minimum wage most definetly DOES not need to be raised. I mean seriously. INTERESTING FACTS: For the private production and nonsupervisory workers who make up 80 percent of the workforce, it took until the late 1990s to return to the real earnings levels of 1979. CEOs at large corporations now "earn" about three hundred times more than the average worker at their firms. In 1982, they made just 42 times more; in 1965, 26 times more. The top fifth of households own more than 83% of the nation's wealth, the bottom 80% less than 17%. The top 1% owns over 38% of the nation's wealth, more than double the amount of wealth controlled by the bottom 80%. The top 1%'s financial is equal to that of the bottom 95%. In 1979, the top 5% had eleven times the average income of the bottom 20%. By 2000, the top 5% had nineteen times the income of the bottom 20%. Whatever the data examined, it's worse for women and people of color, who receive lower wages and have much less accumulated wealth than White Males. Women and minority males earn 70-80% of what White Men make. More than a third of single mothers with children live in poverty. CEO pay has grown at a much faster rate even that corporate profitability. From 1990 to 2003, inflation rose 41%. Average worker pay rose 49%... but corporate profits jumped 128% and CEO compensation rose 313%. If the federal minimum wage had increased as quickly as CEO pay since 1990, it would today be $15.71 per hour, more than three times the actual minimum wage of $5.15 an hour. Sounds fair really. Women and brown people are the only thing holding us back, and the only reason CEOs and White Males earn so much more than other people is simply because they are more gifted and work harder than everyone else. Had they known that that is all that was needed to make Communism work .... they would have highlighted it in their Communist Manifesto. Quote
