maplesyrup Posted December 1, 2004 Report Posted December 1, 2004 It is interesting to see how Canada and the US are switching roles as we progress into the 21 century. The US used be the shining example for the other countries on the planet for exciting new ideas, people who stood up and challenged their government, exhibiting no deference to authority. Now US citizens go placidly along with their governments, allowing them to shut down the freedom of the press, and feebly protest, if at all, when they disagree. Canadian people on the other hand, are becoming more and more independent, challenging their governing elites at every opportunity. A good analogy is the circus. Look at what Canada has done in the circus field (Eg. Cirque du Soleil, etc.) versus Barnum and Bailey. It is very sad to see such a decline in our US cousin's society.
