ndpnic Posted November 28, 2004 Report Posted November 28, 2004 I find it truly amazing the contadictions in Canadian Health care. We don't want to pay the tab for Smoking related illnesses, but we'll pay for a female to have 100 abortions if they want, no questions asked. We pick up the tab willingly for the treatment of Obesity related illnesses though. I don't think my tax dollars should have to pay for someone because they've chosen not to exercise and eat Super sized takeout portions. Not when our Health care system doesn't cover life saving drugs like Remicade for illnesses like Chrons disease!!! Quote
caesar Posted November 28, 2004 Report Posted November 28, 2004 It really is a lot of bs regarding smokers as they tax cigarettes heavily to "pay for the costs" and then some try to sue the cigarette companies for health care costs. I don't see this same clamour for taxing or prohibitting booze which causes many health problems, accidents, and spousal abuse which our health system pays for. I know there are many drugs that they will not cover for unknown reasons. I know of a prostrate drug, certain prescription eye drops and MS drug and many pain medications. Yet we pay the catastrophic costs of drugs for HIV despite the fact that it is usually contracted these days due to the victims careless sexual practices. We do not complain or we may be called heartless, discriminatory or gay bashing. Quote

I know my insulin is covered for expenses paid past $1,000 every year. Quote The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Choke Posted November 29, 2004 Report Posted November 29, 2004 If you want to start drawing lines of distinction between different ailments, just admit that you don't want universal and/or taxpayer funded healthcare. Because nearly everything people do affects their health; if you want to cut out one ailment, you may as well cut them all out. Quote

We have a corrupted 2 tier system now. What gives Anti-Smokers the right to say they don't want to pay for Smoking related illnesses, but gives no one else the right to name illness/proceedures, like Obesity? Quote
Choke Posted November 29, 2004 Report Posted November 29, 2004 Ok, I'll try this a different way: NO ONE HAS THAT RIGHT!!! Quote
