Vega Posted September 3, 2015 Report Posted September 3, 2015 Probably one of the most important issues not being discussed this GE; what are your thoughts? What would be your ideal plan for electoral finance reform? It's rather shocking to me that the Greens or the NDP aren't discussing this more, especially the Greens. It seems to be completely off the radar for some reason. Quote
ReeferMadness Posted September 4, 2015 Report Posted September 4, 2015 I expect the reason is that the Liberals actually instituted a good campaign finance law and the Conservatives successfully turned the public against it. It's not easy to educate the public on complex issues. Democracy is tough. Civis Romanus sum Posted September 6, 2015 Report Posted September 6, 2015 I expect the reason is that the Liberals actually instituted a good campaign finance law and the Conservatives successfully turned the public against it. It's not easy to educate the public on complex issues. Isn't the new policy to allow the parties to raise their own money, to limit the size of donations, and to limit the amount you can spend? Why do we need government subsidies for political parties beyond what is given in tax writeoffs for those who donate? Under the Liberal policy parties got government money based on their electoral support in the previous election. That was clearly very prejudicial towards anyone trying to break into politics like the Greens. Quote
