maplesyrup Posted October 6, 2004 Report Posted October 6, 2004 The numbers of seats each party received is quite misleading due to the undemocratic nature of our voting process. For example the NDP increased the size of their popular vote by over 1,000,000 votes from the previous election, quite close to their all time highest amount of support, which shows the strength and appeal of their new leader Dr Jack Layton, who did not even have a seat in the House of Commons (he does now). The merger between the Alliance & PCs resulted in a substantial drop in Conservative support across the country. Overall it was the left-of-centre parties that really made the gains in support, although it didn't completely materialize in the respective number of seats.
