maplesyrup Posted September 29, 2004 Report Posted September 29, 2004 1,500 Imperial Oil jobs leaving Good. This will only help to give the West more clout, and eventually we will take our rightful place in society, and begin to dominate this country. Newfie Canadian Posted September 29, 2004 Report Posted September 29, 2004 Seems like a logical step to me.(Them moving I mean, not western domination. ) If I had an oil company, I'd rather be in Alberta than Ontario, just like I'd rather be in Ontario than Alberta if I were a car manufacturer. I miss Reagan Posted September 29, 2004 Report Posted September 29, 2004 LOL. You see what happens when you decide to punish business. They take the jobs and wealth they provide and go somewhere where they are treated more fairly. Not only will the business recieve better tax treatment here in Alberta but their employees will have a better quality of life making them more productive and thus making the company more profitable. Unfortunately you socialists think big government taxing and wasting is the answer. And the Exodus continues with the Expos heading to DC. I love it. playfullfellow Posted September 30, 2004 Report Posted September 30, 2004 Face it, companies are going to go wherever they get treated the best and right now Alberta is offering some pretty good incentives. Generally, Alberta is a pretty good place to live despite what some people here like to believe. Our standard of living is pretty good and our cost of living not too bad. So we get 1500 more direct jobs and probably around 200 residual jobs from that. Our tax base increases and we get a few more bucks in our coffers. Ontario has just lost out on another 1500 jobs, more empty office space and how many more residual jobs will be lost? I guess being nice to large companies isn't always that bad. Quote
