DogOnPorch Posted June 12, 2013 Report Posted June 12, 2013 The only remaining example of a Dornier 17 has been pulled from the English Channel. The Do-17 was part of the Luftwaffe's medium bomber force that fought during the early campaigns of WW2 including the Battle of Britain. This particular aircraft was downed on the 26th of August, 1940 while on a raid against RAF airfields in southern England. Two of the crew were KIA while two others became POWs. The RAF museum at Cosford is doing the restoration where it will be displayed. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=idr9ebb9KGk Quote Nothing cracks a turtle like Leon Uris.
Traveller Posted June 15, 2013 Report Posted June 15, 2013 An amazing piece of history recvoered. Hopefully, I'll get to see the finished product - I'd consider it a treat... Quote "There is no distinctly American criminal class - except Congress." Mark Twain
DogOnPorch Posted June 15, 2013 Author Report Posted June 15, 2013 Yes indeed. Here's a bit of an update on it's status from the museum. http://www.rafmuseum.org.uk/cosford/whats-going-on/news/dornier-do-17-arrival-at-raf-museum-cosford/ Quote Nothing cracks a turtle like Leon Uris.
