maplesyrup Posted September 20, 2004 Report Posted September 20, 2004 I have to admit that I am basically a born again CBC listener. Recently though, I have been spinning the dial to get a bit of variety in my radio repertoire. And I have come across this station that plays great music which I enjoy: music from the sixties and seventies. There is just one problem though. When they are not playing music, the DJs are constantly bantering with each other. Now I realize that these DJs are well paid, and are probably reasonably affluent, but I doubt somehow that the majority of their listening audience are in the top 5% incomewise. So why do theses fools go on and on, day after day, with their rhetoric, which I am sure only appeals to a very small percentage of their listening audience? Do they really believe their fans are that stupid? Or are these DJs really that stupid? While I certainly enjoy their music, I am considering switching the dial away from them, because of their boring brain-dead political comments? My question is: why do these commentators think that their political propaganda is a plus, when actually it is a negative? Maybe that is why I enjoyed Larry & Willy so much! BTW are they still around the Lower Mainland? Quote An education isn't how much you have committed to memory, or even how much you know. I think you will have to ace it MS not every oen belive what you do, and what offends you or what you percieve as brianless political comentary is not always so. That being said CBC Radio 1,2 and 3 are the 3 worst radio stations I have ever lsitend to, it doesn't necccasarily mean they are but that that is my opinion. takeanumber Posted September 21, 2004 Report Posted September 21, 2004 I think most DJ's are just idiots, but I think they speak to most of the public. Dumb people don't like intelligent conversation. They don't like to hear intelligent things. Hence, you get DJ's who speak to the masses. Even in (supposedly) well educated Calgary, you still get Gerry Forbes. Quote
maplesyrup Posted September 21, 2004 Author Report Posted September 21, 2004 I suppose that is one of the reasons folks purchase CDs instead of listening to the radio, although the radio does bring a certain amount of awareness about what's happening in music. Are you saying that the babbling is actually capitalist propaganda? Or is Vancouver radio just a lot different from what I'm used to? Do you think a morning show on music radio should focus more on 'class struggle'? I'm looking forward to hearing the "Worker and Parasite" morning show. Should be very informative. -kimmy {"Schnell! playfullfellow Posted September 21, 2004 Report Posted September 21, 2004 MS, you should try to live in an area where you get no FM radio, just AM and thats only during good weather or clear nights. And that is only 1 AM station to boot. I now live in an area that has 3-4 FM stations and I think it is great. Vancouver has, what, 20 radio stations if you include the US ones you can pick up? At least most of the morning shows are pretty good, they are silly and start your day off with a chuckle. If you don't like it, change the channel, that's what the little dial on the right is for or the seek button. Quote
The Terrible Sweal Posted September 21, 2004 Report Posted September 21, 2004 So why do theses fools go on and on, day after day, with their rhetoric, which I am sure only appeals to a very small percentage of their listening audience? Excess talk is because the station doesn't want to pay royalties on too much music. Or, sometimes because it doesn't have enough music available within it's market-defined parameters. Since theyve got the DJ anyway, he might as well yap out some filler to same them some money or trouble. Quality? Who cares? Make it hard enough to find and the public will eventually forget about it. Quote
