maplesyrup Posted September 15, 2004 Report Posted September 15, 2004 Film on cat killers draws protest It seems that some people in our society think that it is ok to abuse animals as opposed to humans. I think it is equally as bad, and animal abusers should be punished in the same way that human abusers are punished when caught. My problem is A street racer who crashes into another car and kilsl someone can get house arrest, but if I beat my dog to death, I would probabley get more then house arrest. If we can get are priorities straight and have not have a such a mal-standard then we coudl work out a system that would deal with Animal abusers. That being said we would certianly need to put a clause in any law to permit scientific expirements that may be deemed abusive, by some people. Guest eureka Posted September 15, 2004 Report Posted September 15, 2004 To me, it seems that aninal rights are as important only in the context that how we treat animals is part of what defines us as humans. Mistreatment and cruelty to aninals: the removal of habitat and a few other things depreciates us and our environment. It should be punished. Strictly on comparison, no. Animals have no concept of their rights or the reason for rights, Their rights are limited to maintaining the optimal conditions for their survival. The many rights of humans that we consider to be inviolable are those that that are unique to humanity and are for more than physical survival. Quote
Bryan Posted September 15, 2004 Report Posted September 15, 2004 I don't support the concept of animal rights. It's hypocritical. If a dog beater can get jail time, so should everyone who swats a mosquito. Quote
The Terrible Sweal Posted September 15, 2004 Report Posted September 15, 2004 The headline for this topic asked are animial rights as important as human rights. In order to usefullly consider the question, it needs to be completed: Are animal rights as important as human rights ... [to who]? And then the next question is, what 'rights'? Voting? Equality before the law? Basically, as posed, the question is meaningless. Quote
