Frankly, I have no idea what language Canada speaks or the degree of resemblence, if any, between the countries.

Hehehe..

I meant in the context of the work collegues I've had (and have now) that they gel together with us and you can't tell the difference. The Americans are 'smarter' and more logical though overall. Harder workers too.

Working with Pakistani's proved to be a cultural nightmare. I'm serious. Quar'an at desks, complaints to HR, acusations of racism, twisiting everything into a cultral issue. Pot Lucks being impossible due to dietary issues of various team members. 6 hr long debates of Isreal vs. Palistine. Urine all over the place. Toilet paper everywhere.

And the damn fasting. Everyones breath STINKING REAL BAD. All i'd have to hear about all month is how they are fasting. It's like BUDDY, YOU JUST ATE A 4 COURSE MEAL BEFORE SUNRISE.

Eventually we lost the contract because too many of 'them' joined our team and our numbers sank.

Americans? No problem. You don't even realize they are American sometimes. You just see them as part of the team.

Thank God those days are over and I will never work at a large company again.

---- Charles Anthony banned me for 30 days on April 28 for 'obnoxious libel' when I suggested Jack Layton took part in illegal activities in a message parlor. Claiming a politician took part in illegal activity is not rightful cause for banning and is what is discussed here almost daily in one capacity or another. This was really a brownshirt style censorship from a moderator on mapleleafweb http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q1oGB-BKdZg---

Interesting. I always imagined huge cultural differences betwen our countries.

Yep, this has been my experience as well, but in addition to the "cultural" clashes, we had problems with the Pakistanis not respecting female managers or developers. One guy went so far as to refuse to attend meetings because the boss "dressed like a prostitute". Teamwork with very capable Java developers from India was next to impossible, so deep were the festering sores from kricket to past wars.

The toilet paper reference is spot on....theses guys wanted/needed bidets! (But this is a gross generalization - pun intended!)

Economics trumps Virtue.

They are relaying experiences. That is not racist.

OK, so - YOU WIN - America is better than Canada. no problem!

there was a documented report in US News & World Report where a US Army Colonel ("KER-nul") actually moved to SIBERIA to wed his true love. Does that mean Siberia is better than the US? For HIM it was.

I think that we are forgetting the one fact: "Home is where the heart's on fire." There were 10,000 Americans that moved up here to Canada in 2006. Canada was better - for THEM. Maybe there were 5 billion Canadians (yes, I'm exaggerating!) that moved to the USA. then the USA is better - for THEM.

In my travels around the world (over 4 years and 22 countries - including East Berlin [before they took the wall down!]), I have met Americans that have moved [permanently] to Ukraine (NOT "THE Ukraine", any more than you call it "THE Russia" or "The Canada"!); Americans that have moved [permanently] to Latin America, and yes, to Russia.

Please know this: YOU CANNOT MAKE A STATEMENT THAT A COUNTRY IS GOOD OR BAD - UNTIL YOU HAVE LIVED THERE. I have met MANY, MANY Americans here in Canada who say "I'd NEVER live in the USA again. (This includes ME - and I grew-up there - lived in 12 States over the years!)

I find that most Americans tout "We're the BEST - why would I want to go anywhere else?!!" OK, but remember - that's "arrogance" by definition! THAT is why America is hated all over the planet. Remember, ANY Country could have the might of the USA if THEY also went 20 trillion in debt! Besides, if "might means right", then the gangs are all correct, and the law-abiding citizens are wrong! The terrorists are right and peace countries are wrong!

Ponder THAT, if you will.

And now for the kicker ... if America is so great, why is OUR dollar worth more???!!!! I don't want to be childish .. but I will *anyway*:

Naaaah, naaah, naah, NAAAAAH, NAAAAAH!!!!

And did you know that over 10% of YOUR oil comes from Alberta, Canada? $100 bucks says you DIDN'T know that. And in closing, how many States border the Pacific Ocean? $50 bucks says you answered "three". Feel free to e-mail me for the correct number:

1.00 CAD = 1.01859 USD

Canada Dollars United States Dollars

1 CAD = 1.01859 USD 1 USD = 0.981746 CAD

I guess Canada is 1.8 cents better than America. Now. You do realize according to your very 'logic' that the U.S. was greater than Canada for years when our dollar was worth more. ;)

FYI, I've travelled as much as you have, and the U.S. most definitely is not "hated all over the planet."

I hate to break it to you, but your post is filled with the very arrogance that you criticize Americans for; you're just the Canadian version of the Americans you are criticizing.

Ponder THAT, if you will.

And you owe me $50. <_<

I disagree with that statement.

I know several Americans and most of the time they are considered Canadian becuase we are culturally similar.

Americans are the easiest immigration cases into Canada and if you want to come, you can.

I wish you guys had the same system so I can get out of Canada and move over there!!

A) In the USA, they used to say "If you don't LOVE it; LEAVE it!", so I urge you to follow your heart. You are free to do so.

B) The cultures [between the US and Canada] ARE similar (thanks, in part, to Television). The biggest differences are Socialism and Metric. Before you say "Booo!", let me remind you of 2 things:

If you believe in a guy names Jesus Christ, then please know that HE was a Socialist - NOT a Capatalist. If you hate metric, then I'll ask you a few questions:

Q: What size engine does your car have in it?

A: 2.4 (that's LITERS!)

Q: What about your motorcycle?

A: It's a 750 (that's cc - Cubic CENTIMETERS!)

Q: How much Carbs did you ingest yesterday?

A: 10 grams (that's GRAMS!)

Q: What is the typical dose of aspirin?

A: 100 mg (that's MilliGRAMS!)

Q: How far was that Walk for Cancer? (or any run/walk in the USA - Professional OR amateur)

A: 7k (or 10k, etc)

Q: Wow - that's a great stereo, Dude! What's the efficiency of that speaker?

A: "97 dB @ 1 watt at 1 meter" [Dude] (that's METER)

Q: How much Cocaine did they seize in the last drug raid?

A: "5 Kilos"! (that's KILOGRAMS!)

ALL cameras are 35mm (MILLIMETERS)

Super-8 film? 8 MILLIMETERS

HI-8 tape? 8 MILLIMETERS

That 9mm Pistol pistol [illegally] in your glove box? That's 9 MILLIMETERS

Are you a HAM Radio Operator? You choose your band in METERS.

Are you a Diver? Your gear is measured in METERS. (Go ahead - look at your waterproof watch - it reads "xx meters"!)

All food content is in MILLIGRAMS

All prescriptions are in MILLIGRAMS

Wine is sold in LITERS

Oh, and let's not forget the biggest one: The big, baaaaaad US MILITARY is completely Metric. Go ahead - check it out - ask any Service person.

I just have to add: Look up the US definition of "Calorie" - you'll find that it's: "The quantity of thermal energy required to raise one gram of water 1°C at 15°C." That's GRAMS and CELCIUS.

Finally,$50 bucks says - when I ask you "what temperature does water begin to boil?" Chances are you'll have to look it up. Most people know where it freezes, but in [the FAR newer] metric system, water freezes at 0 and boils at 100.

And in closing, I've longed for this answer:

Why (oh, WHY) did the US "shoot a bird" at the King - even going to WAR with him, yet they not only keep his old system of measurement ... the REFUSE to change, and say "Imperial is better!". I just don't GET it.

<scratching head>

And for a Nation that likes to be "hip", this is certainly confusing!

Frankly, I have no idea what language Canada speaks or the degree of resemblence, if any, between the countries.

The THREE official languages of Canada are English, French, and Iniktut.

The Inuit speak the latter. AMERICANS call them the derogatory "Eskimos" (as they call Native Indian women the derogatory "Squaw" [meaning "whore" - yes, I'm part cherokee]. Unuit live in Nunuvut, formerly the Northwest Territories. there's LOTS of info at:

AMERICANS call them the derogatory "Eskimos" ...

FYI:

"Eskimo has come under strong attack in recent years for its supposed offensiveness, and many Americans today either avoid this term or feel uneasy using it. It is widely known that Inuit, a term of ethnic pride, offers an acceptable alternative, but it is less well understood that Inuit cannot substitute for Eskimo in all cases, being restricted in usage to the Inuit-speaking peoples of Arctic Canada and parts of Greenland. In Alaska and Arctic Siberia, where Inuit is not spoken, the comparable terms are Inupiaq and Yupik, neither of which has gained as wide a currency in English as Inuit. While use of these terms is often preferable when speaking of the appropriate linguistic group, none of them can be used of the Eskimoan peoples as a whole; the only inclusive term remains Eskimo. The claim that Eskimo is offensive is based primarily on a popular but disputed etymology tracing its origin to an Abenaki word meaning "eaters of raw meat." Though modern linguists speculate that the term actually derives from a Montagnais word referring to the manner of lacing a snowshoe, the matter remains undecided, and meanwhile many English speakers have learned to perceive Eskimo as a derogatory term invented by unfriendly outsiders in scornful reference to their neighbors' unsophisticated eating habits."

 Suuuure we do. We all go around referring to Native American women as "squaws."

Racism has received a really bad rap. Well, speaking of RAP, now THERE'S Racism!

"Even White boys got 'the shout" (from "I like big butts")

"White Men Can't jump" (the movie)

"White Girls" (the Rap song)

"Play That Funky Music White Boy" (the song by Wild Cherry)

Eddie Murphy imitates [and slanders] White ["Crackers"] walking.

In the movie "Tank", Dorian Harewood's character says "The sheriff in this town is a mean Cracker."

So how they can slander a Caucasian, but Caucazoids [the CORECT name] can't even JOKE to them??!!

I hear it so much: "isms are BAD", but how about these:

Capitalism

Baptism

Evangelicanism

Oh ... how about PATROITISM?

"Racism" is defined by the dictionary as "The belief that a race is superior or inferior to another race". Those Black guys who think their is larger than other races – they are being racist! Sure, we think it's "cute" or that we're "not being racist", etc.

When you tense-up as that Burley Biker walks past you, remember - that is predjudice. but we ACCEPT it - he is WHITE ... it's OK to be mean/predjudice against a WHITE guy.

Not to get off the topic too much, but in present-day America, the TAIL is wagging the DOG. throughout history, (including the the 1st & 2nd reich) fell because of this. The 3rd Reich didn't (Nazi regime), but the 4th Reich (the USA) is quickly heading for this same path. Amazing - in all our intellectual conceit - that we can't see this right in front of our noses.
