Topaz Posted October 5, 2012 Report Posted October 5, 2012 An article out says the US is not happy about the deal between Canada and China. Harper hasn't made a dec ision as yet but I'm sure the shareholders, whom ever they may be, is pushing for the acceptance. Me, I don't trust China and no country should and as far as trade goes, China products are full of toxic material that we have seen in this country and we don't need a foreign country owning our natural resources. So what will it be, Mr. PM, greed or second thoughts? http://oilprice.com/Geopolitics/North-America/U.S.-Deems-Chinese-Canadian-Energy-Purchase-National-Security-Risk.html Quote

So what will it be, Mr. PM, greed or second thoughts? http://oilprice.com/Geopolitics/North-America/U.S.-Deems-Chinese-Canadian-Energy-Purchase-National-Security-Risk.html We've seen much of the resources in Canada sold off to foreign nations. Two of Canada's largest mining companies, INCO and Falconbridge were both bought out by foreign companies. I don't like the trend and all foreign ownership should stop. Also the problem raised on a CBC article with this indicated that there is no reciprocal trade. Canada is not allowed to invest or buy Chinese companies because of their protectionism due to their country being communist (not really looking communist anymore but....) Fair trade over free trade, i'll stick with that line. Quote

You have a problem with Private Corporations moving jobs to China, and China Purchasing Canadian Land (Landbanking) and resources? This is how Free Trade is supposed to work. Quote

Evidently the majority of Canadians don't approve of the deal: Harper says Ottawa will take public opinion into account before making a decision. Polls have shown most Canadians oppose China buying Nexen. link Quote

dre Posted October 5, 2012 Report Posted October 5, 2012 Fund managers and market analysts say they expect Ottawa to approve the deal, though not without conditions. These could include seeking guarantees on employment and investment, requiring that CNOOC promise to follow Canadian laws and practices and demanding that a certain number of Canadians be appointed to the board of directors. I would put my money on the above. Quote I question things because I am human. And call no one my father who's no closer than a stranger
