By now most of you are familiar with the special unit of the Toronto Police Services, killing a fierce and deranged male holding a hostage and threatening her life.

It's was anything but a made for television drama. A life was ended so anothers could be spared. The death is most unfortunate. The effort to resolve it peacefully was of no avail. The situation became acute as time passed.

The teams unit commander, decided the life of the hostage was in imminent danger and ordered the use of deadly force. His decision was the correct one.

Now if the hindsighters wish to replay this scene , try to be a little more on the side of facts and less injection of fantasy.

Given that he ran around a food court shooting at his ex-wife and pistol whipped either he or someone else I'd say that the police were justified in using deadly force when he wouldn't surrender.

But that' just IMO.

All too often the prize goes, not to who best plays the game, but to those who make the rules....

Why didn't they use their famous taser weapon?

An education isn't how much you have committed to memory, or even how much you know. It's being able to differentiate between what you do know and what you don't.

They did the right thing.

If you were the hostage, you would have expected, nay, HOPED for a similar result to end the nightmare.

You shouldn't disagree unless you've been in that situation...with a gun to your head and helpless like that.

Bravo Toronto Police.

The police did the right thing by shooting this guy. Others lives were in imminent danger and the police responded as they should have. Tasers have their uses but would not have been a weapon of option in this case. MS, would you have liked to get within 15 feet of this mutt and then try to shoot him with a weapon that has minimal accuracy at the best of times? Probably not because you, the hostage and probably the whacko would be all dead now. 1 funeral compared to 3 is quite a bit of difference.

I don't mean to be facetious, but - why? People die every day. Death is a part of life. And in point of fact, while it may seem cold-blooded, the city is better of with this idiot dead. In fact, the city would be infinitely better off with a few thousand more such deaths of a few thousand more vicious lunatics like him.
