bud Posted September 20, 2012 Report Posted September 20, 2012 (edited) Hey bud, I am curious, if you don't mind me asking, on a scale of -10 (pure hate) to +10 (pure admiration) how would you personally rate the following administrations/regimes: Harper CCP? Obama? Bush II 2001-2008? Israeli? Hamas? Saudi Arabia? The Taliban when they ruled Afghanistan? Russia? China? North Korea? Syria? Iran? Venezuela? Columbia? Any others you care to rate? What countries' government, present or past, would you rate the highest? i'm not sure how to respond to that. i'm assuming you're asking my hate level for these countries. if so, i can't answer that because i don't hate any country. i do dislike some regimes, but again, that's being simplistic. there are many factors and elements involved in how a government of a country functions. i dislike any violation of human rights. i also dislike hypocrisy and selectiveness. i admire neutralist countries such as brazil who seem don't seem to fear the backlash of speaking out against the actions of the more powerful countries along with anyone else who deserves condemnation. i also like ireland's government who don't pick and choose which country is worthy of condemnation of human rights violations unlike, for example, u.s and canada. Yes, I was asking about your hate levels (admittedly simplistically) since the article you linked was about hate and you said "i'd hate us too". Perhaps I am less idealistic than you and feel that in our world sometimes we need to support the "least worst" option/country, I suppose that I am somewhat selective. I also abhor the violation of human rights and hypocrisy. However I suspect that you are being selective in your overwhelming criticism of Israel - and therefore hypocritical. I could be wrong as I have not been here very long and maybe you are trying to balance out the many pro-Israeli-vehemently-anti-Palestinian view points here. Quote

The thing is theres two ways to support other countries - Active, and Passive. We should just be ethical consumers... You dont have to stomp around the world exploding stuff to pick a horse in a race. THAT is what creates the hate. We missed a real opportunity over the last 50 years while the west had almost a monopoly on consumption. Our patronage could have been a thousand times more powerfull than any army we could put on the battlefield. We spend hundreds billions of dollars exploding random stuff around the world, yet we wont refuse to trade with tyrants and human rights abusers. Quote I question things because I am human. And call no one my father who's no closer than a stranger
