In 2008-09 (as in 1980-82), government tax revenues fell sharply because of lower economic activity - meanwhile government spending rose more quickly because of mandated transfer payments. (Look at the graph carefully.)
I'm sure it had nothing to do with the crapload of tax cuts and myriad tax "credits" the Conservatives put into place.

Shady, before the global down turn Harper had gone through the 13 Billion and was in the red, where did it go? Did it go to the pay hike he give MP's? within a month time arriving on the job? Or how about the increase in taxpayers share of their pensions in the last election? Or the "in and out" scam that cost taxpayers money for reimbursements they weren't entitled to?

Complete nonsense. Nothing Harper did contributed to any of the fiscal shortcomings of the federal government. The Conservatives are the best fiscal managers OF ALL TIME!
