jay74 Posted August 12, 2004 Report Posted August 12, 2004 I am interested in hearing the opinions of Canadians about the federal minority gov't. How long do you think it will last and why? Will anything get done? Is this something Canada needed? Personally, i think the gov't will last no more than 18 months. Our major political parties have no real idea how to work together and nothing will get done. The conservatives are so desperate to form gov't, they will not let parliament last very long before they will start posturing to get another election called. Just my opinion. Comments? Quote
caesar Posted August 12, 2004 Report Posted August 12, 2004 I don't think any party is too anxious to bring the downfall of the Liberals, as of yet. They may well end up getting the sohort end of the vote, if they try without a very good popular reason. I think, it remains to be seen what will happen. If the Conservatives want any chance of winning they will have to jettison Harper and move a little more center. Anyone who doesn't cooperate to get our Health Care back up and running will be a big loser. Quote
jay74 Posted August 12, 2004 Author Report Posted August 12, 2004 I could not agree more on the health care issue, Harper and moving to the centre. I do not know what part of the country you are from Caesar but, I live in the centre of conservatism in Canada--Calgary. Most people here, at least the ones I have spoken with are blood thirsty, politically. They truly believe that Harper is the Golden Boy that will lead Canada to the promise land. Just look at how they thought they where going to do in the last election. It was more solemn here after the election results were final then it was after the Flames lost in the Cup final. Quote
maplesyrup Posted August 13, 2004 Report Posted August 13, 2004 There are a few issues that are going to muddy the water a bit: The new Conservative Party has not even had a policy convention yet - I understand it is scheduled for the Spring of 2005. Would PM Martin dare to call an election before that? And could he, or could the GG overrule him, and offer Harper a chance to govern? There are a couple of ridings in Saskatchewan being contested in the courts, and the results may be overturned, creating by-elections which could impact on political coalitions. Le Bloc Quebecois for sure will start acting up over separation as we get closer to the next provincial election in Quebec. The Maher Arar Inquiry. The Adscam Inquiry. Terrorism Health Care Any news on the Speaker of the House decision yet? Quote An education isn't how much you have committed to memory, or even how much you know.
