He was answering my question.

Did he?

He gave you election results, not polls

You specificly asked about polls, not election results.

Aswell Newfoundlander claimed Dion was at 40% in a poll before and his link did not back this.

Perhaps I did not click on the right heading, but all I saw there was election results.

I see the BQ are at 4 seats and were low in the polls.. but now they are rising in the polls.

I am sure everyone will be happy about that.

I'm not...

But seperatist sentiments are not going to go away because of your party's "progressive" Sherbrooke Declaration or the likes of Ian Capstick not wanting to "offend seperatists"...

Questions...

Assuming we adopted the things in the Sherbrooke Declaration as policy vis a vis cultural difference in Quebec and give that province (and only that province) constitutional veto power on that basis,do you think seperatism would go away?

Or would it be emboldened to go further?

Yah but all the "polls that had the Liberals ahead" had huge problems, they were outliers which happen, or they were with in the margin of error, or here is the big one they had huge undecideds whose demographics told you those people weren't going to vote Liberal. Polls are misleading things sometimes.

Polls are listed on the pages he linked, including one that showed Dion's Liberals at 40%. Check the links again.

Yep the Liberals were flying high for the month of December 2006, that is it. It would have been suicide to call an election in December they never stood a chance. For all of 2007-2008 they were behind, so we will see if these poll numbers stick for Mulcair that will be the true test. I expect everyone to look at these numbers closer if they do, the Liberals in both 2006 and 2009 only lead for at most a couple of weeks.

Ok then lets look at facts.

Dion and Ignatieff were opposition leaders when Harper only had a minority government.Under both leaders the liberals avoided voting against the government in fear of triggering a non confidence election call(Actually I believe the conservative government to this date has never had to call an election due to one of their bills/budget being voted DOWN)

Heres another fact Dion and Ignatieff were criticized for not triggering an election.I believe they did not do this because their polling number never gave them an edge and they did not want to go into an election being the underdog.

WWWTT

You do realize Layton also propped up Harper out of fear of an election to don't you?

As well if you're brining up the minority situation then it's more significant that the Liberals led seeing the Conservatives couldn't make unpopular choices in a minority like they've been able to since May.

Links get screwed up on this site. Go to wikipedia's 2008 and 2011 election pages and there's a section on opinion polls, they list all polls conduced and they're sourced to the full results.

Look at you re-writing history how nice that is. Layton got something more then a blue ribbon panel when he negotiated with the government he acted as the true opposition pulling the Cons to the center while the Liberals were voting to kill pay equity in order to get a blue ribbon panel. Actions speak not spin my friend you better go back and see what was actually going on.

Exactly, that's why I said these results as of now shouldn't be a surprise. If the Liberals choose a new leader they will almost certainly have a bounce in the polls, as would the Conservatives if they chose a new leader.

Yes I agree St. Jack is the reason Canada is so wonderful.

The real question is can you keep the bounce as the Liberals did in 1990. I think the NDP might be able to do it especially if the Liberals keep Rae or even worse pick someone for leader who is terrible and no one will like I am looking at you Denis Coderre.

He certainly had the balls to do what the Liberals wouldn't and make actual demands to secure the support of his votes. That is how minority governments are suppose to work, not just having enough members not show that the Conservatives can act like they have a majority like the Liberasl did for years.

Yes very good I missed that!

I guess you were right for a brief moment in time the liberals did have an edge(4 to 5 years ago)for a month or so following many downturns.

Denis Coderre is probably the worst person the Liberals could pick outside of Quebec...

But he's the number 1 guy inside Quebec in standing up to seperatists AND shedding a little light on the weak minded seperatist enabling followers of the Sherbrooke Declaration...

Yes this is true.

The NDP also proped up Martin too!

Thats why I voted NDP!

Money to fight in an election has much to do with this and the liberals were always hurting in this department for some time and could never bring down the government to take advantage of that EKOS December 9 2006 poll that you pointed out.

And to add the liberals were the official opposition and proped up the conservatives numerous times to the point that it became embarassing! How many times did the NDP do this?Once maybe twice?

That is great but Denis Coderre isn't a good speaker he is a very mean and spiteful man and he does not look like a leader in Quebec or outside Quebec. Mulcair fought pretty darn hard in 1995 and no amount of Liberal rewriting history is going to change that about him. The interviews from that time are still around sorry that dog isn't going to hunt. They can pick him all they want it will only lead to their death sooner.

We had a running scored card around this time when the confidence votes happened I think it was 83-1 or 83-2 before we stopped keeping count because by that time most the Liberals on the boards had changed their votes or left because their "The NDP argument are just as bad" made them look stupid. Newfoundlander wasn't around then so I guess he is ok with reviving this argument that was silly then is just plain wrong now.

Mean and spiteful man...

Some are saying that about Mr. Mulcair, aren't they?

And you should be careful intimating I'm a Liberal supporter...

I could care less who you support. I am giving you my opinion. You are a Canadian aren't you? You have the right to support whoever you want. I am telling you though acting like a man like Mulcair who fought pretty hard in 95 to keep Quebec in Canadian and has worked for the past years to change opinions is somehow a soft separatist isn't right. Like I have said we need to stop dragging up a dying movement and giving them credence. Let the Quiet Revolution die the same way it started Quietly. It started a whisper campaign inside Quebec without the rest of Canada's input it will dye the same way.

Meanwhile back at the ranch, Stephen Harper was acting like a Western separatist.

If he fought so hard in '95...'95 being the blossoming of over 10 years of Mulroney bone throwing to the seperatist scum...Why is Mr. Mulcair championing going down the same wrongheaded path as it relates to the poorly thought out Sherbrooke Declaration under the specious term "Assymetrical Federalism"?
