Well whatever keeps him in check. Some of his ministers actions notwithstanding, Harper is a very smart and tactical man. He's one of the smoothest political operators this country has seen in a long time.

can't argue there... he practically helped drive a wedge between chretien & martin beautifully and then watched them tear each other apart .. but he seems to be losing that cleverness

well, as long as he doesn't govern like harper he's at least an improvement..I can't stand how all kinds of Mps get away with everything harper has let them get away with..even Mulroney kicked his mps out of the party when he found them doing something they shouldn't..that is my biggest dislike about harper

I rarely hear someone complain that Harper is too lenient. And by rarely I mean never.

MacKay has blown his chances in my opinion.

This times a million. Harper has sidelined him pretty well IMO.

You do realize he rarely punishes his people when they get caught right?

Helen Guergis did what again? clearly can't be as bad as what Bev Oda and Tony Clement and VIc Toews have done

He's not going to throw a high profile cabinet member under the bus publicly.

How'd he punish Jaffer?

The only time he punishes people is when it's some kind of sex scandal.

He didn't punish Toews..he just reshuffled him into another high powered position ..

She referred to Charlottetown as a "hell hole".

Vic Toews referred to the majority of Canadians as "standing with pedophiles". Nonetheless, you're right, he has punished MPs in the past, when it served a greater political purpose.

I think John Baird is great. He's not really a red tory but his views on social issues are "liberal", "progressive", "non-conservative".

what do you mean? he voted against gay marriage and I bet he's pro life, against assisted suicide and marijuana legalization.. what makes him "progressive"?

Toews wasn't in a sex scandal though, was he?

Harper found out about Vic Toews affairs and fathering a baby with another woman..that was when he was minister of family values.. harper did shuffle him the hell out of there only to give him some other high power position

Should have booted his ass out of the party

I'm being serious though, what did Guergis do to piss off Harper so badly? she is suing him now lol'

He voted in favour of same-sex marriage both provincially and federally, I believe he is pro-choice, and he supported the "bathroom bill" last year.

Not really a scandal, I don't see how it would effect his job.

The PM isn't going to throw away one of his most experience MPs. He too pragmatic for that.

Also, I would bet my life Baird is in favor of gay marriage. I just have a....feeling...yeah...
