Big Guy Posted January 19, 2012 Report Posted January 19, 2012 (edited) Two elections ago in Ontario, John Tory was poised to bring moderate conservative government into power when the private school funding issue speed bump became a brick wall. The Party got rid of moderate John and crowned Tim (mini Mike Harris) Hudak. Tim had already ordered his new chair for the Premiers office, supported by one sided polls, when reality emerged and Dalton kept the crown. Next month is the Ontario PC leadership review. It has been suggested that the train that took Clement, Baird and Flaherty to Ottawa might be coming back to Queens Park with Richard Dykstra and Dean Del Mastro. Richard and Dean have been doing a lot of unappreciated slogging for the PM and dont see a lot of stars in their future. Either one of them in the top Ontario job would not hurt Harpers bid for another majority. That leadership (and next Premiers) job is starting to look good to them. Longitudinal political data tells us that the Ontario PCs will probably get a majority in the next election but who will lead them? A former Harper MP, a weakened Tim Hudak or a moderate like John Tory with the party moving towards the middle? The delegates choice of the new party president may be a good indicator.
