madmax Posted May 1, 2012 Report Posted May 1, 2012 When Lise St Denis left the party for the Liberals the NDP were calling on her to resign and run in a byelection, has anyone heard any NDP MPs call for Bruce Hyer's resignation? Yes..On the 2nd day if not the very day.. along with his riding association.... and on his FB page. However, the biggest difference is that he is choosing, at this time to sit as an IND MP, athough as of today he has suggested he is ready to return to caucus. I personally believe people are more offended if they switch parties then if they choose to sit as an IND. I believe, just as did Reform, that a person who wishes to leave should either leave immediately switch parties and run in a by election, or sit as an IND then run for the party of choice in the next election. This prevents people like Emerson from scoring a cabinet position 45 hours after being elected as an opposition MP. As for Quebec... I am sure that they Quebec MP who went to the Liberals made a Career Limiting Move or has the best and worst set of judgement. Scoring a surprise NDP win then tossing it away to join the LPC thinking the NDP would continue poorly after Turmel. I believe the most recent Crop Poll has the NDP above 51% in Quebec with 500 Quebecers surveyed. that would mean the NDP would win all but 2 seats... Quote
Newfoundlander Posted May 1, 2012 Report Posted May 1, 2012 (edited) What difference does it make if he's an independent or sits with another party? The NDPs logic with St Denis was that people didn't vote Liberal, and that her win had everything to do with her being a New Democrat and nothing to do with her as their candidate. Under the NDPs logic people in Hyer's riding voted NDP and not for Hyer, therefore he should resign if he doesn't plan on sitting with the NDP. They can't have it both ways, they should robocall his riding. Edited May 1, 2012 by Newfoundlander Quote
madmax Posted May 1, 2012 Report Posted May 1, 2012 What difference does it make if he's an independent or sits with another party? I think its optics and I think its more pallatable to the public. While the partisans would like to do as you have suggested, I think the general public is more accepting of sitting as an independent vs a by election. I just believe that is how it is. I think there are now two independents in parliment today. One is a Former Conservative.....and one A former NDP. lol....I guess they are pairing off Quote

Hyer left the party B'cos he didn't agree with their stance on the gun registry & on Mulcair's policy of total compliance by the NDP MPs. He has, as of yesterday, apologized & wants back in. Edited May 1, 2012 by Tilter Quote

Hyer supposedly wants back in but I don't see why the NDP didn't harass his constituents with robocalls and call for his resignation like they did with St Denis. Quote

Um clearly you didn't read all of the articles about Denis switching to the LPC when she gave her reason for leaving as "The people voted for Jack." Come on now. I know you are not this blind. Quote

Tilter Posted May 3, 2012 Report Posted May 3, 2012 The NDP is going to self-destruct over the next few years when the people in Quebec find out just like the rest of the country how goofy most of their members are. The Liberals are going to come back hard eventually, and all it's going to take for them is a charismatic leader. The NDP, on the other hand, has far deeper problems, mainly being an out-of-touch idealogy and a complete lack of experience and competency. So---watch those liberals go in 2023 ????????????? Quote
