Speedy von Vloppen Posted August 27, 2011 Report Posted August 27, 2011 (edited) I've been to numerous countries in Europe (I lived in Germany), Mexico, and to various Caribbean countries, but never to Canada. Well, it's about time. It's the closest foreign country to me. Since I'm in Omaha, Nebraska, Winnipeg, Manitoba is about 650 miles due north from me. That's drivable in a day. My girl and I are talking about coming up some time either in the spring or at the beginning of July. We might be there for Canada Day. We're thinking of renting a cabin near a lake and would love to do some canoeing, exploring, and whatever else is fun. I'm also a photography buff and will have my gear with me. We'll have about a week to have fun. I was wondering which lake people think we should visit -- Lake Winnipeg or Lake Manitoba? I also might want to check out the local music scene in in Winnipeg. I photograph musical artists as a hobby. I'm hoping to find info on local Winnipeg music artists who would be interesting to photograph. While it's my first trip to Canada, it's my girl's first trip outside the USA. Edit: deleted photos per request Edited August 28, 2011 by Speedy von Vloppen Quote
Smallc Posted August 28, 2011 Report Posted August 28, 2011 Lake Winnipeg. The area around much of Lake Manitoba is a complete mess after all of the flooding this year. Quote

BubberMiley Posted August 30, 2011 Report Posted August 30, 2011 (edited) Dust Rhinos are terribly boring. Give me the Weakerthans any day. Should've come this summer though. It was one of the best ones of my lifetime. Beautiful warm sunny days every single day and not a mosquito to be seen. If you are coming to see the nature, I'd suggest July and August. Grand Beach can be amazing at that time. I won't offer to lend you my cottage on the lake there though. Lake of the Woods/Whiteshell/Falcon Lake is gorgeous. Riding Mountain/Clear Lake is highly recommended. And, close to the city, Birds Hill Park can make for a beautiful summer evening on the trails or the beach. If music is your thing, the first weekend in July every year they have the Folk Fest there. It's a little pricey, but it's always a great experience.
