WWWTT Posted April 22, 2011 Report Posted April 22, 2011 Ignatieff thinks he's in the classroom everytime he opens his mouth! Who wants to be lectured or.....given a tutorial? So talk about boring.... That body-language posturing with his two parallleled hands going from one side to the other also gets on the nerve. It's almost like he's going to do the feet shuffle....or one of those 70's disco dance! I've said this before and I'l say it again-Luck favours those that have nothing to lose. The reason for this is because of the pressure of failure. All the debates and interviews so far reflect this Harper and Ignatieff are stiff, period. They are so afraid of failure that experimenting with a different relaxed approach is unthinkable and scary, and ultimately their downfall. WWWTT Quote Maple Leaf Web is now worth $720.00! Keepitsimple Posted April 22, 2011 Report Posted April 22, 2011 The Mansbridge/Harper interview was a waste of time.....all Mansbridge tried to talk about was the coalition. Harper is at his best when he sits down and talks about policy - both foreign and domestic. I was disappointed. Quote Back to Basics

WWWTT Except, for any leader that even has a hope of becoming PM (Lib or Con), to try to look "relaxed" would instantly be interpreted as "cocky" (Harper) or "arrogant" (Iggy). The only one that can attempt to look "light hearted" is Layton because, as with all he promises, he knows he'll never have to deliver. Arrogance in particular would be a no-win situation for either of the potential leaders. Harper's best bet was to look exactly like he did, or even apologetic. Takes the "scary" out of his persona. Scotty Posted April 22, 2011 Report Posted April 22, 2011 Harper had nothing original to say, despite Mansbridge's hard balls. Canada deserves better. So you're running for office, and are ten to fifteen points out ahead, and it's a week from the election, that's the time to start coming up with original ideas? You know better. No politician in Harper's position is going to do a bloody thing other than keep plodding, keep his head down, avoid distractions, avoid scandal or controversy, avoid giving the opposition anything new to toss his way. And who is/was better than Harper? Trudeau, that economic illiterate? Mulroney the crook, or Chretien the cheap crook? The hapless Joe Clark? Mr. Dithers? Mulroney and Trudeau had a lot more charisma, but a lot less competence - and honesty. Quote It is an inverted moral calculus that tries to persuade the world to demonize one state that tries its civilized best to abide in a difficult time and place, and rides merrily by the examples and practices of dozens of states and leaderships that drop into brutality every day without a twinge of regret or a whisper of condemnation. - Rex Murphy

Are you saying that Iggy and Harper are intentionally trying to NOT look relaxed for fear of appearing arrogant and cocky respectively? I sincerely do not believe that any leader with the exception of May believes that they would never be in a position to help develop a government(laws, budgets, policies, etc, etc) WWWTT Quote Maple Leaf Web is now worth $720.00! Hydraboss Posted April 22, 2011 Report Posted April 22, 2011 Guess it's my bad. You are obviously unstoppable in a one-on-one or five-on-one debate. I should probably lower my head and back out now before it gets embarrassing for me. Please forgive me.
