Sir Bandelot Posted April 15, 2011 Report Posted April 15, 2011 Afghanistan detainees, proroguing, contempt of parliament, questionable financial dealings, and now Guergis. Bring it on... For those CPC partisans here, all I ask is, let the truth come out. Judge them by their merits, not by colours. Any government left in power long enough eventually reaches the point of criticality and need to be changed, a point which I think the CPC have exceeded now. Bring on the next, corruptible government. Quote

Any government left in power long enough eventually reaches the point of criticality and need to be changed, a point which I think the CPC have exceeded now. Bring on the next, corruptible government. As much as the Tories have pissed me off, in particular for the inability to recognize the difference between Parliament and Parliamentarians, thus treating the former with contempt rather than the latter, the fact is that they've only been in power five years, and as a minority government. This is hardly the same thing as the tired Liberal regime that they replaced, which should have been put out of its misery in the 2004 election. Quote
Bob Posted April 15, 2011 Report Posted April 15, 2011 None of the things you mentioned above bother me. The detainee issue was a fake controversy, and actually made me despise the the opposition, not the minority government. The contempt they showed for the Canadian military was really low. The same is true for the proroguing. The Guergis problem reflects well on the Harper government when it is viewed honestly. One question for you, though, what "questionable financial dealings" are you talking about? There are legitimate beefs to be had with the Harper government, but they're not the Liberal/NDP talking points you're using in the OP. Bonam Posted April 15, 2011 Report Posted April 15, 2011 (edited) I tend to agree that a party left in power too long will rot away in corruption and arrogance. I don't think the cons have reached anywhere close to that point yet. All the supposed "scandals" that have been talked about of late are pretty much on a scale as to be complete non-issues for me. The conservatives have been doing the right things for the most part: keep taxes low and keep the economy going strong, fund the military to finally get some much needed equipment, take principled stands on foreign policy rather than bowing to political correctness, etc. Edited April 15, 2011 by Bonam Quote

Yeah it sure looks like their selection criteria needs revamping. Quote "We always want the best man to win an election. Unfortunately, he never runs." Will Rogers
