I started this poll in this thread:

We have a lot of deeply partisan supporters of the various parties on this board, but I thought it would be interesting to get a feel whether people are just talking a good game, or if they put their money where their keyboards are.

Myself, I'm a Conservative Party supporter in word, deed, and money. I'm a card carrying member, I volunteer my time for my local candidate, and donate both to my local candidate and to the federal party. I get fairly close to my $1100 limit for each, but in smaller $100 or $200 at a time increments over the course of the year.

Some expressed concern with the poll being public, so here's a non-public version.

FWIW, I didn't even care who specifically responded, and I don't care at all about public vs. not with polls. I just wondered if the breakdown of which party's supporters donate money is different among political junkies compared to the general trend we've seen in Canada so far.

Thanks for doing this Bryan.

Still not going to answer. :P:lol:

If a believer demands that I, as a non-believer, observe his taboos in the public domain, he is not asking for my respect but for my submission. And that is incompatible with a secular democracy. Flemming Rose (Dutch journalist)

But that's only because you falsly believe that you are some sort of superior critter. Wrong.

The government can't give anything to anyone without having first taken it from someone else.

Please point out my personal belief that I am somehow superior to anyone else???

Can you change the poll again, so that it just asks about the donations? Or what if you donate to one party, but vote for another... there's no option for that.

I'm specifically looking to see the difference between people who vote for a given party and those who actually support it financially. Like I said before, I'm interested to see if those numbers here, with a crowd that really follows politics, differ much from the general population. Perhaps the wording of "vote" could be changed to "support".

...vote for one, donate to another though? That's a lot of variables to poll for... could I even fit each possible combination? Wouldn't that make you "none of the above"?

The fact that you wouldn't give a plug nickle to any of these gentlemen prettywell nails it.

Well then what about people who don't vote? Ahaaaa...

I don't give anything to any political party. Never have (except that part of my union dues my union gave to the NDP WITHOUT my permission).

I have captured the rare duct taped platypus.

I think you're talking about an entirely different kind of animal here. Those who donate to parties are very much part of that party's political process; if not outright members, then most certainly they are supporters. This type of voter is not very likely to ever reconsider their vote, they have a team and they'll wear the t-shirt proudly.

The rest are not really supporters of any party in any strong sense. They may be Tory, Liberal or NDP supporters by habit, but they could, at least hypothetically switch. They have no real horse in the race.
