lukin Posted January 9, 2011 Report Posted January 9, 2011 That run by Marshawn Lynch may go down as one of the greatest in NFL history. WOW!! Quote
Jack Weber Posted January 9, 2011 Report Posted January 9, 2011 (edited) Let's not go overboard...It was a great run at a time when the Seabags needed it most... Huge upset,nevertheless... Can't say I saw that one coming... The key to me was the inability of the New Orleans defence to actually tackle someone cleanly for the entire game.... The NFL needs to expand by two more teams. Each conference will have 17 teams. Each team in the conference plays every other team for a total of 16 games. Every team plays the same schedule. No divisions. Top 8 teams in each conference make the playoffs. Time to call Roger G. so that he can make this official. Go Colts!!! Quote

There needs to be no more expansion at all...The football nowadays is far too watered down.In fact,if they lopped off at least 2 teams,it would'nt hurt the NFL one bit... I never understand why people get down on teams that have a mediocre season and get into the playoffs?? The Arizona Cardinals were 9-7 2 years ago,and came within a James Harrison interception return for a touchdown of a Super Bowl. The playoffs are a new season, and if New Orleans was so great and Seattle was so bad,the Saints defence should have shown up today and beat the weak 7-9 Seabags...They did'nt,and the proof is in the pudding with the result. And the only thing I need to hear fron Mr.Godell is that he is'nt going to lock the players out before next year...No needs to see the economic balance of the NFL disrupted so the likies of Jerry Jones and Danial Snyder can blow their collective financial brains out to buy championship football teams.... If the J-E-T-S JETS! JETS! JETS! win, both Super Bowl teams from a year ago will be out of the playoffs on the first day of the first round of the playoffs.... The Bucs should have beaten Atlanta about a month ago in a game they should have won... The Giants should not have given up a 21 point lead with 7 minutes to go in the 4th quarter against Philadelphia a month ago... No excuses...Those teams had a chance and they blew it...They can go pound sand... Quote The beatings will continue until morale improves!!!

An excellent shootout that was highlighted by one of the nicest TD runs in a very long time. How many tackles did Lynch break? 5? 6? Plus, when you have your QB run up looking to throw blocks you know who wants it more. Saints had it coming. Super Bowl champs the previous year and haven't won a road playoff game. They was ripe. Now we got the Colts-Jets snorefest (first half at least) Quote

Super Bowl champs the previous year and haven't won a road playoff game. They was ripe. Now we got the Colts-Jets snorefest (first half at least) I just saw on the halftime of the Jets/Colts game that it was 8 tackles...It was a great run,no question..It was greatly aided by shoddy tackling by the New Orleans defence.Which is how they tackled the whole game. You're right...The Saints can wear every inch of that loss proudly because their defence essentially never showed up.In fact,I think they coughed up 10 point leads twice! 7-7 Jets/Colts...3rd Quarter... Gotta give it up to Hasselbeck...He did'nt play on Sunday night because of an injury(by the way,Charlie Whitehurst played really well against St.Louis),but he was game today! lukin Posted January 9, 2011 Author Report Posted January 9, 2011 The Seahawks got it done, no question. They got in by a flawed playoff system and played a good game today. As for the strike next year, Jack, you have to look at the bright side.... hundreds of fewer charter flights means less CO2...which should mean a pause for global warming. Quote

Not a strike...A lockout...Job action by the employer, not the employees.... And,if you read into it,you'll realize that it's driven by the greed of the likes of Jerry Jones. It is'nt going to be that big a deal for me because I'm a football fan,not just an NFL fan...So there's plenty of other places to get my fix! The system is'nt flawed...Because the teams you pointed out had HUGE opportunites to win games that would have put them in the playoffs, and they blew it when they had the chance. And the seeding system you're talking about would have kept Arizona out of the playoffs 2 years ago,and as I said, they came within one play form winning the Super Bowl... I want to see the best teams in the playoffs, not flukes of a weak division. Let me get this straight... The one year this happens, keep in mind that I remember when the Cleveland Browns went into the playoffs with an 8-8 record and almost beat the Miami Dolphins in the Orange Bowl, you want to change the entire playoff structure? I mean,$#!+ happens sometimes...And if New Orleans was such a great team, perhaps they should told their defence to show up today and beat that undeserving 7-9 team? Then the regular season is meaningless. The Seahawks benefit by playing in a weak division. I never liked the NFL playoff system, well before this season. This year just exposed the league's flaw. And yes, the Seahawks can go on to win the SB, all because a playoff system rewarded them for a mediocre season. Quote

So the Pittsburgh Steelers in the '70's,the San Francisco 49er's in the '80's,the Dallas Cowgirls in the '90's,and,the New England Patriots in the '00's all got to be considered championship juggernauts because of a flawed playoff system? I never knew this... I suppose the Vince Lombardi led Green Bay Packers of the '60's are exempt from this? Are they the last really great football team? If the Seahawks do go on to win the Super Bowl, they will have beaten a few teams that ostensibly were better than them. That would mean that they played better than those teams.Ya' got 60 minute4d to do your thing. If ya' can't play your best when it counts,ya' deserve to be shining up the golf clubs... Did those teams not deserve to be in the playoffs? Was there always 2 teams with better records than the teams you mentioned? Why should a team be rewarded for finishing with 3 fewer wins? Obviously, Seattle didn't have to play their best to get invited to the party. You claim TB and NYG had their chances and failed. Seattle didn't have to worry about winning at least 9 games. They got rewarded for playing in the league's weakest division. The playoffs are a new season. Seattle has a chance to win the SB. Hell, maybe Dallas would have beaten the Saints too. But they'll never get the chance this year because the had a poor record in a division with 2 good teams, unlike seattle. Quote
Jack Weber Posted January 9, 2011 Report Posted January 9, 2011 In 1989,The 49ers had to go to Chicago to play the Bears at Soldier Field in the NFC Championship game. Chicago had a better record but lost 28 to 3 to San Francisco... In '01,New England had to go to Pittsburgh to play the AFC Championship game and beat the Steelers. I'm sure there's a few more I can think off if I dig them up,but, that's just off the top of my head. And by the way, this is all minutia compared to what ownership is potentially going to do if they lock the players out next year... Quote The beatings will continue until morale improves!!!

lukin Posted January 9, 2011 Author Report Posted January 9, 2011 1988 - SF finished 10-6 - tied for third best record in NFC. Jack Weber Posted January 9, 2011 Report Posted January 9, 2011 What are the owners planning? Other than the proposed 18 game schedule? I'm not up to date on those things. Fill me in. The 18 game sched' is only part of it... What they really want to do is either greatly limit,or completely do away with the tv/radio revenue and merchandising revenue sharing agreement that's been in place in the NFL since the early '60's.This is the very thing that has been the foundation of the financial success of the NFL.Essentially, almost every team turns a profit before they sell a ticket because of this revenue sharing. The old guard owners Like the Mara's and George Halas knew that if the League was to be successful it would only be as strong as its weakest link. That's why the Green Bay's can compete with the New Yorks and Philadelphia's of the world. If you follow baseball, you'll know that there is a huge disparity between the have's and the have not's in MLB.For example, there is no way the Pittsburgh Pirates can compete with the Nee York Mets, let alone the New York Yankee's.In fact, the Pirates season is usually done by Opening Day. I would submit that if the owners in the NFL get their way within 10 years the NFL will look alot like MLB.Teams like the Green Bay Packers,Pittsburgh Steelers,Cincinatti Bengals,Buffalo Bills etc will be like the Pittsburgh Pirates or the Kansas City Royals. The players union has to sign off on this, yet the players will be the ones who eventually will be the ones who will bare the brunt of this because there will be less treams with them money to pay them. You can see how ownership and the Player Association would be on opposite ends of this, and it's why the owners want to lock them out to force this situation on them. And Mr.Godell is the owners guy... And in '84 (if I recall) the C;leveland Browns won the AFC Central division with an 8-8 record and alot of people were saying the same things you're saying... It's unnecessary...$#!+ happens sometimes and that's just how it happens sometimes... In the 1950's,The New York Yankees seemed to win the American League pennant every year. And every year it seemed that the Cleveland Indians would finish second, sometimes with over 100 wins...And never went to the World Series... Sometimes life is'nt fair...And sometimes teams should'nt cough up 21 point leads in the 4th quarters of games they have dominated. And sometimes previous Super Bowl champions should'nt cough up 10 point leads to undeserving 7-9 playoff teams, and lose football games they should win... I'm not arguing with you about today's result. Seattle deserved to win. I just don't feel they should have been there. Maybe Carolina could have beaten NO in a one game showdown if they were given the chance. But they never got the chance because their record was even more inferior than Seattle's. Quote
