maplesyrup Posted June 14, 2004 Report Posted June 14, 2004 There's something Green wafting through the air A major blitz is being planned for the final two weeks. Party workers are being sent from Montreal, Ottawa, Winnipeg and Prince George to knock on doors. Orders have been placed for 500 more lawn signs and 300 billboards. Print ads have been prepared and broadcast ads are under consideration. Leader Harris, who was in the riding last week, will return to Saanich-Gulf Islands. And Andrew Lewis, of course, will continue to ride the ferries back and forth between the various islands, campaigning happily with what he calls "a captive audience." This, they believe, is the beachhead. Mr. Lewis, they are convinced, will be to Green in 2004 what Deborah Gray was to Reform back in 1989, when she won that federal by-election. Mr. Lewis, wisely, is taking nothing for granted. "I think we're going to see a lot of movement in the riding over the last two weeks," he says, "so I won't want to get my hopes up too high." Even so, he says there is something quite different in the air this time, and it is not something you burn or smoke. "People are talking Green Party," he says. "And whether we win or lose, it's obvious that we're still drawing a lot more people to the party this time. "Our breakthrough will come sooner or later — and I think it will happen here." maplesyrup Posted June 14, 2004 Author Report Posted June 14, 2004 These results illustrate the substantial growth of the NDP and Green Party in British Columbia since the 2000 federal election. The NDP is up 16-points from 2000 (11% to 27%) and the Green Party is up 8-points (2% to 10%). Their gains have come at the expense of the Conservative Party, who though leading at 33% today, are down 23-points from the combined 56% support captured by the Alliance (49%) and Progressive Conservatives (7%) in the last election. Meanwhile, the Liberal Party is virtually unchanged from the November 2000 (28% in 2000, 27% today). Slavik44.......my quote is from the Ipsos-Reid website. Where is your from?
