Shwa Posted December 1, 2010 Report Posted December 1, 2010 CBC stereotypes a drag on Canada-U.S. ties: WikiLeaks But Canadian television is the perpetual thorn in relations between Ottawa and Washington, according to leaked diplomatic cables. NAFTA, Foreign Policy - nothing: Rick Mercer - you bastard! No matter how hard American politicians and ambassadors try to paint the two countries’ ties as tight and strong, television programs such as The Border and Little Mosque on the Prairie end up undermining those efforts by depicting American security officials as unyielding, faceless thugs with dubious morals and scant respect for international law. They're not? Heck, does anyone watch The Border and LMOTP? I refused to watch that crap once the CBC cancelled jPod. And Americans were thoroughly respected and realistically portrayed on jPod. So there. One, which emerged Monday, details a conversation with a senior State Department official, in which former Canadian Security and Intelligence Service director Jim Judd complains loudly about the restrictions Canadian courts have placed on his agency and about Canadians’ “Alice in Wonderland” world view when it comes to combatting terrorism. Ha! I get all my combatting terrorism world view from CSI and Criminal Minds! Quote
The_Squid Posted December 1, 2010 Report Posted December 1, 2010 A comedy that pokes as much fun at ourselves than anything else and a really lame melodrama... those are to blame for the negative reaction to America by Canadians? I suppose if you are so intent on finding blame elsewhere rather than looking inward, then you will find it in the strangest places... Quote

This is absurdity on the level of religious folk excoriating Harry Potter. It's laughable. Quote As scarce as truth is, the supply has always been in excess of the demand. --Josh Billings
guyser Posted December 1, 2010 Report Posted December 1, 2010 ...American security officials as unyielding, faceless thugs with dubious morals and scant respect for international law I fail to see what is the problem. If this refers to the TSA then its a polite one since TSA is far worse than unyielding or having dubious morals. Quote
AngusThermopyle Posted December 2, 2010 Report Posted December 2, 2010 Little Mosque on the Prairie end up undermining those efforts by depicting American security officials as unyielding, faceless thugs with dubious morals and scant respect for international law. Wow, these guys are upset by one of the biggest piles of dreck ever to come out of Canada, simply amazing. Well...come to think of it I can see how they would be, its a terrible show. guyser Posted December 2, 2010 Report Posted December 2, 2010 I agree; it's a poor-quality comedy. However, like pet rocks....cha-ching! Dreck or not, give me the rights. Quote
Oleg Bach Posted December 2, 2010 Report Posted December 2, 2010 Can't have the likes of Little Mosque On The Prarrie poluting the young yanky mind..my God - it might show that the dreaded Muslims might actually be human - and how can they wage war on real people? The Americans need not worry..they can impove their drone squandon and keep killing for fun...and pay another nation to take the blame... Quote
Shwa Posted December 2, 2010 Author Report Posted December 2, 2010 Nice win! From briefing notes to black ops in the embassy TV room Hello U.S. diplomats in Ottawa! I have news for you. That CBC show you were so concerned about for its anti-American stereotypes, The Border? Yeah, that one. Much of it was written by an American guy.Did I hear you say, “Oops”? See, it’s true. American guy from the Bronx, named Denis McGrath, comes to Canada, does this show (and some others) as episode writer and co-producer, and then moseys back to the United States. He’s now in L.A., cooking up some other stereotypes, presumably. Quote
