Never new who Hitchens was until yesterday. After listening to him and having a close look at his persona..really don't find the guy pleasing..reminds me of a televison evangelist...who always look demonic. All religion is man made and most has little to do with God and goodness..ultimately all religion is political. What I find interesting about aggressive atheists is the fact that they bother trying to win people over to their way of thinking - what is the point?

Y2K wasn't supposed to be the end of days though just potential computer failures, which were either overblown or avoided by all the corrective programs that were sold...the next fallback is real Apophis a 320 meter wide meteorite that has one near collison with earth and will have another in 2029, then again in 2036 odds for collision are calculated at about one in 45,000 but no doubt movies will be made and more books written...

While it would definitely be catastrophic if 99942 Apophis crashed into the Earth, it would not be an "end of days" global extinction event. It is too small, only 270m in diameter, and it has a impact probability of only 1/250,000 in 2036.

He's a formidable intellect and a strong debater. These are both quite separate from whether he is correct or not.

After all, this is the same guy who contended that an administration lying its populace into war was a defensible act.

As scarce as truth is, the supply has always been in excess of the demand.
