scribblet Posted September 4, 2010 Report Posted September 4, 2010 Can this guy actually carry out these attacks, or can the west catch them before they do, or is he full of hot air? http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/asia/pakistan/7980812/Pakistan-Taliban-threaten-attacks-on-US-and-Europe.html Qari Hussain Mehsud, who commands suicide squads for the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), said he was proud that the US had added his organisation to its international terrorism blacklist on Wednesday. And he and promised a fresh wave of attacks that would resemble the attempted Times Square bombing earlier this year. RHe spoke as he claimed responsibility for a suicide bombing at a Shiite rally in Quetta yesterday in which 53 people were killed. "We proudly take its responsibility," he told the Associated Press news agency by phone from an undisclosed location. "Our war is against America and Pakistan security forces, but Shiites are also our target because they too are our enemies." The TTP has previously said it was behind Faisal Shahzad's botched attack on Times Square. However, warnings of subsequent threats against the US have proven unfounded. The Quetta attack was the second major strike by militants in Pakistan within 48 hours, raising fears that the militants are trying to capitalise on devastating floods that have plunged the country into crisis. A triple suicide bombing on Wednesday night killed 35 people at a Shiite ceremony in the eastern city of Lahore and was also claimed by the TTP. Bonam Posted September 5, 2010 Report Posted September 5, 2010 Can this guy actually carry out these attacks, or can the west catch them before they do, or is he full of hot air? There's tons of terrorist groups and all of them would love nothing better than to successfully carry out a major attack on the West and thus gain infamy and boost funding and recruitment. Most lack the cleverness, organization, and resources, to be able to do so. Besides that general statement, it's unlikely anyone on this board has access to the type of intelligence that would allow them to determine what the threat level posed by this particular terrorist group is.
