Topaz Posted November 2, 2009 Report Posted November 2, 2009 Ever really wondered what the real cost of a politican on Ottawa. Did you know that all taxpayers pay $3.00 to every $1 they put in towards their pensions? http://ca.finance.yahoo.com/personal-finan...icians-get-paid Quote

Topaz Posted November 2, 2009 Author Report Posted November 2, 2009 Where's the fairness in that group raising their own wages, seems a conflict of interest to me. Quote
fellowtraveller Posted November 2, 2009 Report Posted November 2, 2009 I have no problem with MPs earning $150K per year, seems reasonable for that job. The pensions are over the top though, both in qualifying so easily and in the amount paid for life. They should change to a common private sector model, where both the MP and employer pay a prescribed amount annually into a self managed RRSP, which is portable. That way, the MP would not be penalized too harshly for leaving whatever their career had been in the interest of public service. The public would not be paying exorbitant lifetime pensions for a few years service. The amount paid by the employer could be linked to a key economic indicator, such as the deficit. That way, every MP would have an actual personal interest in making sure that efficiency was paramount rather than the typical partisan wankathon we see now in the Commons. No deficit, bonus paid. Have a deficit, no bonus paid. In the private sector, corporate pension contributions are often linked to profitability. Quote The government should do something.
